A new piece of temporary art for Keith to hate...and it'll be right outside his window!!
If you were watching Keith back in 2005, you remember how much he hated having to look out his front apartment windows and see "The Gates," the series of neon-orange curtains on frames scattered throughout Central Park.

Well...now, ladies and gentlemen, I give you "Electric Fountain":

which will stand in the same spot as the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree from next Wednesday through April 4.

Assuming it's tall enough, we should be able to see it behind him through the Countdown window, just like the tree.

Actually, I think they're testing the pieces they have up now, and that's what you can see over Keith's right shoulder (to our left) that looks like little white arching dots of light racing and blinking on and off.

I have a feeling Keith is not going to be any too pleased about how distracting it will look on TV for a month. It'll be like trying to sleep in a motel room with a window right next to the blinking neon sign. "Welcome to Keith's Bar and Grill." "Eat at Keith's."

Maybe MSNBC will have to go with a faked bluescreen backdrop of the plaza for that whole time.

Edit: I'm rewatching tonight's earlier show, and on one of the bumper teases, they start out with a wide shot of the window and then zoom in to Keith. It's REALLY easy to see in the wider shot. It's not the blinking lights over his shoulder--actually, the whole fountain is standing right to his immediate right. It's very big; it stands just as high as the lit-up trees behind him--as high as his head. The only reason it's hard to see now at all is that it's not lit yet.

OMG, when that thing gets lit up and starts racing its lights, he's going to look like he's doing Countdown from the Las Vegas Strip unless they put a bluescreen behind him.

6. There's an NYT slideshow here with some
http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2008/02/20/arts/20080221_FOUNTAIN_SLIDESHOW_index.html

that links to an article with more.

Maybe we should be glad it's not the heart with the dagger through it.

or does a lot of the "art" nowadays looks like something you'd see in Macy's windows with store dummies around it? Presenting: the fashions of 2008.
