CC is the absolute best
Thank you CC. I got my KOEB mug and buttons yesterday. And they couldn't have come at a better time! The mug is helping me ward off the stupidity of Morning Stupid Joe. Plus, with two buttons, SharonRB and I will each have one to wear at the Take Back America conference in a couple of weeks.

CC, have I ever told you "you are my fav"? Thanks for helping me get through the weekly French Toast Run with a sense of humor. Thank you for making me feel welcome in my new state. Thanks for being you.

:loveya:

4. I thought about thanking her privately
but I wanted everyone to know what a sweetheart I think she is and how wonderful she's been to me.

6. It got there already...yeah!
Your welcome. I know it is hard to move and then to have to drop into a whole different kind of area makes it that much more of an adjustment. Good timing on this end too. Was at a funeral today.

Hoping the button might be an ice breaker when you are out and about. If someone knows and likes KO then you will know they have potential for further conversation.

I don't see how any of you can listen to Morning Joe. There has got to be something else on TV that time of the day. Local news and traffic at the minimum. Not sure since I am usually a sleep that time of day.:)

7. I figured as much
I knew the funeral would be any day now. I'm really sorry for you and your friend who lost her spouse.

You've been so sweet listening to my rants.

I wouldn't watch Morning Joe but my husband's got a thing for Mika. He denies it but today he muted the set when he found out Mika wasn't on. Oh well. I've got KO at night and he's got Mika in the morning.

I'd like to be sleeping at that time too. Hubby likes getting up early and taking the German Shepherd for a walk. He takes her about 5:30 every morning and wakes me up every time. Actually it's the dog that wakes me up. She jumps up and down on the bed while he's putting his shoes on. He's lost close to twenty pounds since we got here so the morning walks have been a good thing.

Gotta go watch KO. The Admiral has commandeered my laptop so he could play a video game. I'll be watching but I won't be able to post.

8. I have Moyers on since I couldn't
listen to the debate again. Not even for a brief glimpse of Keith. lol

The funeral wasn't too bad, depressing but then aren't they all. Except for asshole relative things are not too bad. D had MS and was so bad for so long it is hard to not feel some relief for him. The daughter went around telling people how S and her kids killed him but since pretty much everyone there has been around the last 20 or so years she just made a fool of herself. Their house is nice and clean. S will figure out what else she wants to get rid of and put it up for sale. She already has a neighbor interested in buying it so that part might go good for her. Looks like it will be calm for a while until she needs help moving. It will be good for her to have some peace and quiet. She also has a whole church full of people now running interference and keeping on eye on her. The hardest part for us here is that it is almost an hour drive away. She is up near Philadelphia and I hate driving up there. They think the middle of the road is their lane and you should fit on one of the edges left and that is one of the better parts of their driving habits.

Rant away, though do let me know when something good happens. You went through a major move and some of your rants are entertaining because I can just see how it goes. I would say that you might meet more neighbors and all once the weather starts getting warmer. I know I tend to hibernate in the cold, then again I moved her from FL and my body still thinks it should be hitting the 80s in Feb.

Off to spend time with my dogs for a while. Kitties had their time, ferrets are sleeping and the poor canines have been neglected. Dogs tend to feel it the most IMHO. I can't wait to tell Terry your hubby lost 20 lbs walking the GSD. Maybe it will get him to walk Zaiden more.

9. I rewatched "The Wire"
It's one of my favorite shows. Unfortunately it is coming to end.

I don't like funerals either. I know what you mean about it being a relief though. It was a release from pain for D and, I know this always sounds harsh, a relief for those who loved him. I've been talking to SharonRB about my mom and her last months. Mom spent the last four months in the hospital. I remember she kept saying things like, "you should be out living your life" and "I don't like being like this". It's so hard to let someone go but at the same time you know they aren't happy.

There always seems to be at least one asshole at every funeral. At my mom's it was my sister-in-law. She didn't even wait for mom's funeral before she started trying to stir up trouble. When we were out making arrangements for the funeral my SIL was at my dad's house going through my mom's jewelry and picking out the pieces she wanted. We, the family, hadn't even thought about that. We figured it belonged to my dad. Then she pitched a bitch at the funeral home when my mom's relatives came in with the drums and sang traditional songs. Mom was Indian and that's the way we do things. She just never got it. She made an ass of herself and my brother, her husband, finally had to ask her to leave.

I'm glad that S has you as a friend. I know that D's death wasn't unexpected but I'm sure she's feeling a giant hole in her life. I know that your being there is a comfort to her.

My rants are decreasing as time goes by. Any more I just think to myself "this isn't what I'm used to" and then I just accept it and go on. I know we won't be here forever and I look forward to the day we get to move back home. Right now, we're still working on some projects and client matters leftover from before we left. I work on those most of the day and then hand stuff of to my husband for his corrections or suggestions at night. He takes them and works on it during his commute. He gives them back to me in the evening and we do it all over again. I feel like I'm in school again. It's like I hand it an assignment and he tells me what I should do to get a better grade. When we've caught up on all of that I'll have time to start meeting people and getting involved.

It is really funny how different people are from one city to another, let alone, one state to another. I'm one of those people who think turn signals were put in cars to be used. They don't seem to like them too much around here. On the other hand, they use their car horns incessantly. I look forward to the day when I'm back in Kansas and don't hear a single car horn all day. On the bright side, my defensive driving skills have improved immensely since I got her.

As for the weather, it has been the opposite for me. I'm used to cold weather at this time of the year. Snow, sleet, ice and days of hibernation due to extreme cold. Here the weather is pretty mild compared to back home. The neighbors must think I'm an absolute nut because I'm not wearing coats much. Heck, it is averaging 20 to 30 degrees warmer than what I'm used to at this time of year. I silently laugh whenever I see them bundled up like Ralphie's little brother in "The Christmas Story" when it is in the 30's. They all look like little ticks. I don't know if they would survive a Kansas winter.

Speaking of dogs, I've got to go take my little darlings for a walk. The Admiral twisted his ankle yesterday and is claiming he's too lame to take the shepherd this morning. I've got to go take her and then I'll come back and take the two little ones out for their walk around the neighborhood. The shepherd is very protective and if I take the three of them out all at once she doesn't get her exercise. Otherwise she spends all her time circling and protecting the three of us. I have to take her out separately or she'll end up bouncing off the walls later.

Take care of yourself. Thanks, again, for making my life brighter. I hope to be able to return the favor someday soon.

10. I never got around to watching The Wire
for some reason. I'm sure the whole series will end up here on DVD eventually. Ter is already mourning its end.

I guess there is always one person that has to make a hard time even worse. I look at it as them trying to be the center of attention so ignoring them tends to work well. Glad you are there for Sharon. to Sharon. Please give her a real one from me when she is out. I doubt I make it to DC area anytime soon. I have so much to catch up on with my house now and spring is coming soon. Time to start planning gardens and outdoor work. We have a lot of it to do.

Rants are a great way to release stress but glad you are starting to adjust. Shame we are so far from DC. We have little town, rural areas and people use their turn signals here. lol Once the weather warms up you might want to check out smaller towns around where you are. You might find a place that feels more comfortable for you. I would definitely do that before buying if possible. Besides some in those red areas are longing for more blue/progressive neighbors. You wouldn't believe how happy seeing a Kerry-Edwards sign made me last major election cycle. They also rarely use their car horns around here. The downside is it is a red county though a lot of them are fed with with the idiot too. Wish they would lay off O'Malley because Ehrlich was no picnic and left a lot to be fixed. That will be the downside for the next Dem President. Those independents and fair weather voters will change their minds fast and start bitching when he/she starts to fix things and ask the American people to help. The repuke machine will still be there using its megaphone to convince them it is all the liberals fault and the sheeple will follow.

I refuse to live any farther north that I do now. If we move it has to be to warmer weather. I keep looking at Panama though thinking of the US Virgin Islands if we can keep Dems in power. I know I am dreaming but it gets me through the winters. Florida used to be nice and not full of crazies. I blame Jeb for ruining what was a great place to live. I might survive a Kansas winter but not sure anyone around me would. I can't really remember the winters from when I was little there, just the tornadoes. Every state has its beauty though including Kansas, despite what my mother says.

I am glad to find I am not the only one that must walk dogs separately. Big dog goes alone since he is serious about it. The little ones are together because they aren't. I cheat a lot and use the back yard to burn off their energy though. Zaiden I can set to tracking treats, training or playing fetch. The littles like to run and sniff every inch of the yard with call backs to start all over again.

11. I know I watch too much tv
but I'm a bit of a snob. I don't like commercials and I hate laugh tracks. I ended up getting the movie channels (HBO, Showtime, etc) to repetitious banality of commercials. Plus, I like The Wire because I have legal training, I worked with juvenile offenders and I know a lot of cops (both good and bad). It's just interesting to me on a number of levels.

As the Admiral likes to say: there are assholes everywhere and one for every occasion. Unfortunately for my family, my SIL is an asshole on most occasions. It's like she likes taking up the slack when no one else will step up and be the asshole that day.

I will give Sharon a big hug from/for you. It's funny but I've found so many wonderful people on the internet. I always look forward to being able to meet them. I've been very lucky. Almost everyone I've met on the internet is the same in person that they are online. They keep that small glimmer of hope for our collective futures alive.

Rants definitely keep me from buying an Uzi and climbing on the nearest tower. I'd love to come visit you sometime. I guess it is from living in a larger state but driving a distance to visit a friend isn't a deterrent for us. We used to drive almost an hour just to say "hey" to evlbstrd and 10 hours just to hang out with a friend of ours in Nashville.

You're right. We'll want to look around and figure out where we fit in before we buy. I'd like a less uptight neighborhood. Then again, maybe it is me. I should try to get a little more involved around here. People, overall are just people, and I haven't been making much of an effort to get to know anyone nearby. I have to take some responsibility. I'm just spoiled. I had a nice little community and a great group of friends. I've never really had to go out and start all over from scratch. It's a new process for me but I'm going to give it a shot. I am thinking of the Takoma Park or Arlington areas are places that we might want to consider exploring. Takoma Park because I keep hearing that it is older and more laid back. Arlington because we'd be closer to our friend Alan and we like hanging out with him and his friends (who are becoming our friends). We want to buy because we want to get another large dog for the German Shepherd to play with. The reason we're in the house we're in now is because we had trouble finding a place where we could have three dogs. Most of the places were okay with the small ones but they thought the big one would be trouble.

The thing about Kansas weather is that you know they are going to happen and no one panics. Yeah, we might get several inches of snow or a tornado watch but truthfully neither are that bad. When you know it's going to snow heavily you know the road crews are going to be out and that travel won't be great on side streets but it rarely paralyzes the area. When there's a tornado alert/warning, you can see where it's going and, more often than not, you know what areas are in most danger. Tornadoes aren't any every day occurrence and, anymore, you can tell what area is most likely to be hit. If anything, the weather in places like Kansas makes you more aware of your surroundings and gives you an appreciation for the environment. Besides, when the weather is bad people go outside and watch the sky. It's one of the ways we ended up meeting our neighbors. We were all outside watching the sky and then you start talking to whomever else is outside about past storms, the color of the clouds, the wind direction, etc. And, if something does hit, neighbors come out and help. The weather actually brings people together. We had a microburst a couple of years ago and we spent the days and weeks after helping out neighbors. We helped cut up trees and clean up. Here, not so much. If the weather looks bad, people seem to keep to themselves and stay busy inside. With all that said, I'd prefer a warmer climate myself. I like being outside and feeling the warmth of the sun. But having actually seasons is nice too. I like the spring rains, I like it when the leaves turn and I love it when it snows. It makes life seem a little bit more like an adventure.

LOL, yeah, I've been walking dogs in shifts for a long time. They've each got their own personalities and I've learned that they are happiest when they get to do what they like. I spoil them. I spoil them real good. Skala likes running free. She spent the first two and a half years of her life chained in a yard 24/7/365. She seems to really appreciates being able to roam and sniff whatever she wants and investigate her surroundings. It has to be a lot better than being chained up and never being able to walk beyond the 15' that the chains allowed. It did take her a while to get used to being inside. Ceiling fans freaked her out at first. Then there were the sounds in the walls whenever the heat kicked on. She used to bark at the vents. She was a handfull at first but now she's content to lay on the couch and watch National Geographic. She barks at the animals she doesn't like and when "The Dog Whisperer" is on she still runs up to the tv and tries to sniff butts. The funniest thing she's ever done was the time she was watching the Outdoor Life channel and they hunter on there said, "Let's go." The dogs ran to the right of the screen and Skala jumped off the bed and out into the other room. She looked perplexed that she was the only one there. She came back into the room where the tv was and cocked her head like she was saying "where did you all go?" She still has trouble suspending her disbelief and understanding that there really aren't other animals in the television for her to play with. Now when she gets out, she makes the most of it. She runs to and fro picking up sticks and tossing them in the air.

The two little ones like to go for walks but they don't like to explore as much as Skala. They like staying on the sidewalk and are insecure when they are off their leashes. They are content to spend the day sunning themselves in the backyard and going for a walk once a day, or not.

13. Get lots of pictures please.
I know you have a camera and take pictures so just a friendly reminder. I do hope you find some time to relax and decompress while you are out this way. Still thinking of you and keeping you and the family in my prayers. Even when I am not around much.

14. I watch too much tv too though I can't just watch
with out doing something else at the same time. Keith gets the most undivided attention of any thing on tv and that is because the cats and ferrets now think that is the time they should be on me getting attention. The cats will even meow to move me to the couch now. I just don't notice the commercials beyond that they are on. I couldn't tell you what they were for unless someone makes me pay attention to them.

I live in the middle of no where for the area and used to be nothing to drive an hour or two to get wherever. Then gas started going up and I started getting even more conscious of saving and combining trips. Now I just hate to drive because I have been able to avoid it as much as possible. I think I am going to lose my record of not having paid $3.00 a gallon for gas though. So far I had timed it some how that I didn't need gas until it went back down. I don't see that happening anytime soon though and it hit 3.05 here this weekend. It is not even an affordable thing but a I hate giving "them" any money if I can help it.

I do remember Kansas weather and I do remember tornadoes. Maybe it was an age thing(from 5 to 7 yrs old) but I'll take a hurricane over a tornado any day. I remember the green skies, the calm but being able to see the storm coming. I also remember a tree falling on one house, a couple blocks of new houses being wiped out in our neighborhood at another house. Luckily the houses were under construction and empty. We had gone to pick up our dogs and were on the side of the road watching the tornado in our neighborhood. The people along the road were outside with the basement door open and told everyone to head into their basement if it came toward us. Including the two GSD. When we moved to Baltimore I was in second grade and would not do fire drills right. lol I went and got my little sister and were went into an inside hallway like they taught us in KS. Took a while to learn the siren/alarm meant go outside not to an inside hall. My mom refused to make me relearn the getting my little sister thing. She said the school would have to adjust since she taught me to get the sister.

Your dogs sound neat. Shame on the being tied out. Some people just do not understand. I'm glad he found you so he has a good life now. Especially before the fence mine got walked and if they were tied it was on a 100 foot run so (mainly Zaiden) could run. We did have an invisible fence for the little ones but it never worked on Zaid. His prey drive is just to strong and I haven't figured out how to train him to listen once he is locked on to the chase. If it runs he is after it. He also loves to terrify people that are fearful. It is hard to train that out of him since his reward is their fear and he reads it so well. Still working on it though with brave volunteers.

It is warm today and will be again tomorrow. Yippie! So back outside for me.
