18. I heard KO was good last night on Leno
I taped it, but there was a five-alarm fire downtown last night and the local news gave it the whole hour's worth of coverage instead of airing Leno. Needless to say, when I sat down to watch the tape after work today I was very, very pissed.

I think when they wiped out Tom Cruise's 'engrams' they erased his brain, too. Perhaps Jeb Bush will become his champion. Did you see that Katie Holmes was the only actor not signed to appear in the sequel to MI? Great career move Katie! Apparently the studio is blaming the poor box office on their romance and, of course, they are not going to go after Tom.

133. Jay does'nt want anyone who might upstage him on the show, that's why
The Tonight Show was so much better under Carson. Carson would give new comedians a chance but not Leno. KO was probably on because NBC wants to promote Countdown and MSNBC, not because Leno wanted him. Carson was also a much better interviewer. The Tonight Show has become :boring: .

140. negotiating in LA? I wouldn't think so.
I doubt he'd want to leave NYC. That's almost as much a part of him as baseball and since he doesn't drive, life's really a bitch unless he's in a city with a functional mass transit system, which leaves out LA. :-) Yeah, he can afford a driver, but he's not on the star trip and is therefore apparently not the sort of person who's thrilled by the idea of having someone hanging around all day waiting to attend to his transport needs. If he could do a show from NYC, perhaps, but I don't think he was blowing smoke in his most recent blog when he said he was staying with news (as opposed to returning to sportscasting).

I'm not opposed to him jumping to another network, depending on the size and shape of the landing pad and which part of Keith hits it and how hard. :-) Given the money recently spent on promoting Countdown, I'd be a little surprised to learn they're thinking of shifting him to NBC, though.

155. I think gk has this one right.
He's a New York boy. He's done the LA thing...twice. It must have been difficult for him not being able to drive, and this is a guy who obviously chooses public transportation over being driven everywhere. And I think now that he has a successful news show he's happy with, it's in his blood and he's not changing that.

aspect of it. I don't think he's intellectually or emotionally dishonest enough to buy into the sort of "undoing" that revirginization implies. Case in point: he didn't try to side-step the ESPN question last night and he didn't try to blame other people or re-write history. His voice got really quiet and he looked down for a moment while he was talking about it, but he didn't try to "undo" the behavior he clearly regrets now.

but it isn't baseball. 'Sides, he needs to start catching up with the sports scene, so he can chatter with Dan Patrick on Fridays, starting in August.

84. Is it time for KOEB
to join forces with Stephanie Miller & go out & protect Keith?

I thought the interview was pretty funny, but Mary drove me nuts when she continually pulled on her ponytails.

I wasn't going to infuse basketball into my KOEB postings, but since Mary forced me into it by wearing a Pistons shirt, I gotta say

GO SPURS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

;)

Either that, or WE need him to!!!!!

Anyway, too bad he didn't say whether he'd be on tomorrow night or not. I figure it's not completely unthinkable, even with a bit of jet lag. But I'm so glad he's done such a yeoman's job on the West Coast. (Although he didn't exactly look as if he was suffering at the end of tonight's show...THE GAME, Keith! THE GAME!!!! Keep your mind focused on THE GAME!!!! Yeah, that's the ticket!!!!)

Get a grip, Rev. I don't think she's his type. She's got no boundaries and he's zipped up tight. I'm doubting she can even bag him for a one-night stand unless she gets him intoxicated. She sure as hell doesn't have enough brains, snark, or emotional depth to hold his interest longer than one night. None of our business, really, if he does decide to sleep with her, but I certainly don't see anything coming of it.

125. I'm with you, gk.
I mean, not like we're flies on the wall or anything, but I think our KO is probably a more astute judge of women than that. Of course, for the crew who thinks "All men are just animals and all of them think with their *censored*"...I guess they don't think anyone is above one night in the hay with a...shall we put it politely..."professional"? But I prefer to have a slightly higher opinion of *all* men than that. Or well, at least, some men.

That doesn't mean that while their brains aren't saying "No way!," their bodies aren't trying to argue with them over it...I mean, they're only human...just means that in the case of some guys, the brain is more likely to win the battle...especially once they get over about 25!

154. there's a difference between saying and doing.
And there's a difference between um, talking about sleeping with a porn actress and actually doing so. Given the actual opportunity, I think Berry's right: a lot of guys over the age of 25, the above-the-collar brain kicks in and starts wondering about the number of partners and the risk of getting an STD. And yeah, she looked hot in the movie, but did she really like doing that or was she pretending to like doing that and will she really want to do that with you? (And if she does do it with you will she really be thinking of some porn star stud with a more impressive bat?)

166. Hmm. I guess to avoid being a complete victim of my bad memory
I'll have to watch it and post the general gist of it to you. Unless dzika in his infinite wisdom takes pity on us again and sends us a clip.

I do recall certain parts of it quite well. I believe she was the first of Keith's guests ever to sit right next to him at the desk! (She did everything but actually reach out and stroke his hand or his arm, the way women do in bars when they're trying to pick up men!) Keith asked her why she was leaving the "respectable" business she was in to dirty herself in the world of politics! She also expressed her ideas as to how to raise revenue in California--she said that if she were lieutenant governor she'd have cameras installed in the mansion so "people can pay to see Arnold and me"! (I don't imagine Maria would be too happy about that!) And she also said it was all part of a plan to eventually run for President--and that if she were elected President Keith could be her Vice President--"or my First Man!" (To which I, of course, thought: "Mary, sweetheart, not only could Keith never be your 'first man,' but your 'first man' was so long ago YOU probably can't even remember!")

Mary was wearing her hair in two very long blond pigtails, which she stroked almost compulsively again and again and again during the interview, making sure they didn't obstruct Keith's or the camera's clear view of the Detroit Pistons shirt she had painted onto her breasts before the show (or at least it *looked* painted on). Good thing Keith didn't lean over to talk to her, or he could've fallen in the crevasse and it would've taken longer for the search party to find him than it did to find that lost Boy Scout. All through the whole thing, she wiggled and jiggled like the proverbial bowl of Jell-O, and also implied she and Keith would be watching the basketball game together after the show (to which he seemed rather noncommittal).

Classic quote of the night: Mary said what she has in common with the politicians is "We both screw people!"

Anyway, somehow after Keith got his eight minutes over with Mary, he had enough presence of mind to actually say "Keep your knees loose" (which made her giggle) and pitch the paper wad and say "We're through now" or "We're done now." Not sure whether that was for the camera guys or for Mary! LOL!

To sum it up: quite funny. I think Keith gets a kick out of rubbing the Repugs' nose in Mary. She's like the crazy aunt they'd just as soon keep in their attic, and Keith keeps dragging her downstairs and saying "Here she is! And she's all yours!!"

punctuation. Whether it's an affectation, like the pigtail-stroking, or something she does when she's nervous or something she does all the time is anyone's guess. I'm hoping it's not an all-the-time thing -- I think I'd want to throttle someone if I were forced to spend a lot of time around them and they ended every phrase with a giggle.

And yes, there was a fair amount of cleavage on display. Perhaps she's demonstrating her best assets, but is it really the best way to convince folks that she's serious about her political aspirations? You want people to believe you're serious about politics, stop dressing and behaving like a fuck-bunny. It's getting her some PR, but is it going to get her campaign funds or endorsements or a significant percentage of the vote? I think she'd be better served to re-dye her hair a slightly more realistic shade of blonde, go for some outfits and hairstyles that make her look more like a grown woman instead of an extra from "Catholic High School Girls in Trouble" and lose the dizzy blonde act. If she's got a few brains, she should show 'em.

173. I expect the giggling is all part of an act she's done so long
she doesn't quite know how to stop it.

Keith says she's smarter than she lets on...perhaps she's got a bit of the Jayne Mansfield in her. I guess we'll find out when he tells us! In any case, Jayne may have been smart but her ploy to use sex to get ahead in the world largely backfired after her kind of sexuality went out of style...

One thing's for sure, playing up her porn-star past gets her a LOT of attention, and maybe that's what he's talking about. My question is: is it the best tack to take in the long run, if you want to be anything more than a nine days' wonder on the political scene? Right now she's like a two-headed calf: a geek attraction. If she really is serious about the politics and not just using it as another publicity stunt, though, she's going the wrong way about it.

Then again, I doubt her seriousness. I think she's out to get publicity for Mary, whatever that takes. If it means using people like the Repugs, so be it!

175. Yeah, if she were a Democrat ex-porn star,
(or is she an ex-porn star? I guess not, so remove the ex-) I think the Democrats would basically go "so what, what's your position on the budget" and the Republicans would go "we told you so, they're all degenerates." This way she gets to play against expectations.

Ya know, we had a M2F transexual (Democrat, of course) running for city council in our last election, and she damn near won -- made the runoff. At that point, you just kind of think, "You know, really, who the hell cares?"

177. Yeah, the difference is, Mary's purposely inserting her sexuality into...
the equation.

If she were serious, I'd think she'd say "OK, so I used to be a porn star, but that was another life, and now I am older and wiser and I want to put that in the past. I want to do something worthwhile with my life. I really do want to get into politics to help people." Instead, she comes off as a Pat Paulsen type...a novelty candidate. I mean, everyone knew Pat Pausen wasn't *really* running for President, it was just an extended joke. That's what Mary's like...an extended joke. When she talks about what she'd do if elected, it's all a joke...putting Web cams on her and Ahnold and the like. I guess when she was in the gubernatorial runoff, she said that part of her platform was that women with artificial breasts in California should be taxed and women with normal breasts should not be taxed. (Causing Jay Leno to say "See, that's good...she's reaching out to minorities.")

It will take more than giggling and maraca-shaking and coming on to every man she meets and voicing silly "platform ideas" and making jokes about "screwing people" to really become a viable candidate for public office. (And in case anyone is wondering, yes, I DID miss typing the "l" in "public" the first time.) But possibly what Keith sees in all this is a woman who's very smart about how to get herself lots of publicity, and not afraid to embarrass a few people who deserve embarrassing in the process. And think about it--how many porn stars get known in the mainstream? This one will always be known as "the one who ran for public office." She may consider that alone an accomplishment, especially once she feels she's too old to make any more money off "the life."
