Enough with the Nazi references! (Keith Olbermann)

LOS ANGELES - A message to Dick Durbin, Rick Santorum, and Robert Byrd - as they combine to delay my reports to you about the night I inadvertently offered Bill Clinton my New York City subway pass, and my experiences behind the scenes at "The Tonight Show," and my private eight minutes with Mary Carey...

1. LOL. I loved the "here's my transit pass" story
and he's right about the Nazi stuff, too. It's a shame they don't have Godwin's law for congresscritters, 'cause the minute any of 'em bring up Nazi references you know the possibility of rational debate has ended. Not that some of the stuff that's happened at Gitmo didn't/couldn't have happened in concentration camps but the term is so emotionally charged that it overwhelms the discussion. They've wasted cycles on "Nazi" when they should have been talking about Gitmo. Doesn't matter whether the Nazis did or didn't such things in the past. What matters is what we're doing now, because torture is unacceptable and should be unAmerican. Why does the Bush administration feel otherwise and if it's so damned justifiable why are they trying to pretty it up by calling it other things and doing it out of sight? If it's necessary and just, it's necessary and just and there's no need to obfuscate. They fucking know they're doing something wrong.

Do you suppose our grandchildren will someday be involved in a discussion where they'll discuss whether it's appropriate to call someone a "neocon" or a "Bushie" or some such? A few years back, I used to amuse myself by wondering whether blivet**'s administration was more or less corrupt than Grant's. I think it's pretty obvious by now which administration is going to win the historian's booby prize.

4. snort. And I thought Rev would be the first to
publicly remark on that. Bad Crispi. Not as bad as what I thought, but I'd best keep that thought to myself. O8)

7. I'm not afraid of getting locked...
somebody's apparently been busy working in the yard or dodging the Bay Airs for the last few nights. About time for him to resurface and appreciate the wonders of Alison and get caught up on distributing :spank:. I don't care to be one of the targets... I'll PM you.

*now* you understand, I take it? If nothing else, DU has rules about using punctuation. :7

on edit: and yes, I thought all of those things in about ten seconds. Sometimes it's a little scary being inside my head. ;-)

from the Trollop herself.

If you really want to be entertained... I was thinking that stuff intermixed with work bullshit... makes for some interesting variable names.

12. well, I'm supposed to adding some grammar support
for handling triplets -- do you think "threesome" is an intuitive synonym suitable for a symbolic name? O8)

13. Go for it!
One of our software utilties is called, with perfect seriousness, the "hot insert utility." Using it is called "doing a hot insert." I ask you. :eyes:

What kind of grammars are you working on? not speech recognition, is it?

14. no, nothing so fun
just a grammar for an ordinary programming language -- they're allegedly based on grammars, too, although some of them are more, um, grounded, than others. :eyes:

I'm not surprised that there's such a thing as a "hot insert utility". 'Course if you worked on it, I'd expect it to be a "red hot insert utility".

15. When I worked in hospitals I would call some nurses 'nazi nurses'
because of their attitude, but some time ago I took the pledge and no longer do that no matter how ticked I am. Jon Stewart had a good bit on TDS about this which, as usual, was right on target (and funny as hell!). Jewish Hospital in St. Louis used to put enlarged photos of Nazi attrocities down one corridor every year to remind people of what the Nazi's did. I think people need reminding that what the great monsters of history (Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, etc.) did was way beyond merely 'bad'.

KO:loveya: Ha, ha, I was right, MC was getting revenge on the GOP with her comments about wild parties, etc.

"Eight minutes with Mary Carey, eh? You just KNOW that someone's going to make a snarky comment about THAT..."

 I'm glad to see I didn't misunderestimate you guys!!!!
