Remember when KO apologized for the F word that was not bleeped on an
amateur tsunami videotape? Well, the local St. Louis Fox station was showing an amateur video of the Praxair plant blowing up, Mandy Murphey said "Let's stop talking and listen", so they did and someone on the tape said, "There's a lot of sh** happening". Lots of nervous laughter!

1. whoops!
Reminds me of the Packers-Redskins game last fall. You know, the one which would predict the outcome of the election. Some Cheeseheads were sitting near the booth, chanting "Kerry, Kerry, Kerry..." Turns out it was some DUers!

Ya gotta love live TV. :)

2. Speaking of live TV...
...I watched the Top 3 Newsmakers part of the re-air last night (hey, SCTV was back, sorry) and they fixed it so all you could see was the graphic again. They didn't fix the audio, so you could still hear Keith mumbling confusedly and saying "Hey, get back here" or whatever he said--but you could no longer see the unintended glimpse they gave us of him during the live show.

Once again, proof of why it always pays to tape the live broadcast! :-)

Then again, any time Countdown wants to hire better spellers/proofreaders to do the graphics, that would be fine with me. Some of the misspellings they commit are downright embarrassing. If I never see another graphic that says something like "DEJA VOUS" or "STATIONARY STORE," it'll be fine with me!

3. Well I'm sort of partial
to stores that stay in one place, rather than moving around. :)

4. I don't know...
if they were obliging enough to move while I was in them and relocate themselves to be adjacent to the next store I wanted to visit, that would be rather convenient, don't you think?

5. Nah, I'm thinking Harry Potter here.
Those damned moving staircases freak me out. I don't care for heights to begin with, but really - how do you plan for something like that?

6. You guys are just too much!
I think the problem with a moving store would be that I'd be tempted to buy from it at all hours of the day and night...especially if it were a bookstore...I mean, having Amazon.com right in my home via computer is bad enough.

The other big problem would be those annoying salesclerks...I know they're all trained like that and their evaluations probably are based on this now, but it is getting to the point where I HATE shopping in the real world in a brick-and-mortar store because I am SO TIRED of being tailed all around the store everywhere I go, being asked constantly (by about 5 or 6 clerks in the course of the average visit) "Is there anything I can help you find?" "If there's anything I can help you with just let me know!" AGGGGHHHHHH! Just leave me alone until I need you, OK...and then when I do, don't be talking to your fellow clerks or on the phone with your boyfriend! Help me! Oh, and PLEASE don't try to get me to sign up for your loyalty card whereby you will know everything that I bought, or your credit card which has 25% interest and which will lower my credit rating if I so much as apply for one, or your "discount" program where if I buy 50 items I will get a whopping 10% off the 51st (big deal!) or your email newsletter, or anything else! OK?

There, rant over *sigh*. I feel better now.

8. I'm not above telling them, literally, to BACK OFF.
some of them are way too pushy and if they get on my nerves, I let them know. If I'm in a good mood, I'll gently tell them that their chances of making a sale will be enhanced by giving me a little personal space. If I'm not in a good mood, I'm more direct.

9. It would depend upon the wizard.
Neville Longbottom, for example, would get numerous passes. He's just not that bright, is he?

Harry would be suspect, but you never know when "he who must not be named" is up to some kind of mischief, so they're used to Harry breaking many rules, with good cause. After all, he is "the one who lived."

Hermoine would simply turn back time, and NEVER be late.

Ron would constantly be put "on report" for being late. He would get numberous "owlers" from his mother, creating great embarassment.

Malfoy would use this excuse at every opportunity, then threaten the teacher with a promised visit by his father.

10. I guess so, but...
Give poor Neville a break. You never know when he's going to turn out to be a hero.

Harry can in essence get away with whatever the hell he wants.

Hermione? She'd either turn back time, or she'd find a way to re-engineer the staircases to ensure her timely passage wherever she wanted to go ("Elevatus Retrofittus!")

I think you're right about Ron. Those "'owlers" are a scream (literally).

Malfoy would not only use them as an excuse, but blame the situation on deliberate attempts by Harry to thwart his passage. Twenty points from Gryffindor!

11. Neville is *definitely* going to be a hero
if not in the next book, then the last one for sure. Notice how much better he's gotten with his spells? And notice how the prophecy *could* have been about him? (Can you tell I just re-read the last book to get ready for the next one? I'm so stoked!)

12. Agreed that Neville's going to get better.
He's about to get a proper wand for the first time and I expect that will make a tremendous difference. I also think he was present when his parents were tortured and his memory problems are side effects from a clumsily-performed Memory Charm... do those ever wear off? I'm nowhere near as excited as I was when waiting for book five, perhaps because book five was so uneven, and really felt like a first draft. I guess I'm afraid book six will be similar, a mix of good and not-so-good.

13. OK, I admit. I'm a Harry Potter fangirl too.
I don't know what it is about bright guys in glasses, but they get me every time.

I too am looking forward to the next book. Although I fear I may have to reread the last one to even remember where everything stands. And I will not be participating in all the midnight frolics because I have a concert to attend that night and a baseball game the next day (yeah, a baseball game, fancy that!). I'll probably have to order the damn thing on Amazon.

15. Ah..."The Boy Who Snarked"...
I would pay good money for that book and to see that movie:

"Harry Potter and the Full-Blooded Anchorman"

Harry grows up and graduates from Hogwarts as a Wizardry Communications major, despite having spent far too much time at the school radio station and running off to Quidditch games. He makes it out by the skin of his teeth, which is a good thing because you know his mean old aunt and uncle weren't going to let him stay at that place a second longer if he didn't actually EARN that wizardry degree. But rather than stay in the wizard world, he decides he can do more good using his magic to help the Muggles, so he goes out and gets a job as a sports broadcaster on a Muggle radio news network. Before long he's working at a fledgling Muggle cable news network, then a big-city Muggle TV station, then another couple of Muggle TV stations in a big city. Then a nationwide Muggle sports network comes calling, and his Wizard snark casts a spell on all the Muggles. But it's not enough--he wants to report Muggle news, so he leaves for a new Muggle news network after casting a dark spell on the sports network. Soon, though, he finds Muggle news too distasteful, so he heads back to Muggle sports. That doesn't work out too well, so he eventually finds his way back to Muggle news, where his snark finally finds its ideal home--and amazingly enough, he even figures out how to lift his dark spell off the sports network, and is welcomed back. It's a great story! :loveya:
