Philosophical thought for today:
Edited on Sun Jul-10-05 06:01 PM by Gogi
The world is too much with us. Thanks to round the clock coverage of every 'lil thing (interesting or not!), people are suffering fatigue, I know I am. What would be a good name for it? Infomalaise? Media aversion? Some people are developing actual phobias, I'll have to check and see if the psychiatrists already have a name for it. I, personally, have tomcriuseaphobia, an overwhelming urge to destroy DVDs of Tom Cruise movies.

:hi:

1. How about Mediaphobia?
Here are some interesting phobias:

Ideophobia-fear of ideas.
Gallophobia-fear of the French.
Levophobia-fear of objects on the left side of the body.
Neophobia-fear of new things.
Phonemophobia-fear of thinking.
Politicophobia-fear of politicians.
Prosophobia-fear of progress.
Satanophobia-fear of satan.
Sophophobia-fear of learning.
Technophobia-fear of technology.
And good ol' Xenophobia-fear of outsiders.:scared:

Perhaps we should all get together and buy Faux News a psychiatrist!

5. And here I thought Gallophobia
was the fear of tacky wines. :)

As to your first question: I call it "burnout."

2. Don't be so glib, Gogi
;)

Tom Cruise just might come to your house & jump up & down on YOUR sofa. ;)

6. Ya know, Gogi, I can totally reel off what follows from your
opening quote:

"The world is too much with us, late and soon.
Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers.
Little we see in nature that is ours.
We have given our hearts away, a sordid boon."

But I'm damned if I can remember where the heck it's from!
