Only I thought they said an 8-year-old, not an 18-year old. That's even dumber. I can understand a dumb 8-year-old, but you'd think an 18-year-old would know better.

I haven't even been paying attention. What about some coverage of Cindy?

I just got a PM from Botany that he can't get into the group tonight -- I don't know why. He wanted everyone to know about the fight between KO and Kaplan. I told him we're all aware of it.

12. I live about 30 minutes from Kingston, TN
One of my friends was actually AT that courthouse and witnessed the shooting. He emailed me late last night after having been questioned by the police (innocent, of course, he was just an eye-witness).

He'd nearly gotten shot and actually saw the police officer go down.

So sad.

86. Obviously someone needs to tell Keith
that many nationalities have many different ways of spelling pierogi, and there is no one right way to spell it because it's a transliteration from languages with alphabets other than ours and all we try to do when spelling it in English is approximate the sound.

Besides which, he can't spell "cannoli," so who is he to talk? ;-)

37. Hi Crispini.
How's the non-smoking going?

I need to quit, but, hell, I'm just not ready. To be quite honest, obesity runs in my family more than cancer and I'm scared to death that if I quit, I'll get as big as a house, which is actually, just as risky. And, I have a HORRID time losing weight. I have to nearly starve most days just to keep in shape.

Although, I would like not to cough so much. *sigh*

61. Is there some kind of support you can get?
Making any kind of lifestyle change, especially for your health, is horribly stressful, as I can attest from bitter experience. But if you could get into some kind of group and/or have a doctor/medical team back you up, that would help.

We want you around here for a LOOOONG time.

65. coughing is not good
you might want to have a chat with your doctor about whether the obesity risk is truly as great as the cancer/lung disease risk, given that you're already coughing.

68. Oh... I've had that chat
He says he can give me nothing. That being overweight is a state of mind and that there is no "magic pill."

He's overweight, mind you.

I quit when I got pregnant. And started again two years later when I was going through a divorce. But, I was SUPPOSED to gain weight during a pregnancy, so it wasn't a big deal. Plus, I was six years younger then.

I have cut back to lights, now, because my b/f, who also smokes, fussed at me enough to do that.

75. I didn't think lights really were that different.
if it's the nicotine you need, perhaps trying a cessation method? Not that the nicotine's good for you, but at least your lungs would catch a break. And if you get some insurance (or better insurance), consider a different doctor. If you've got a family history of obesity and high blood pressure, diabetes, etc., your concerns shouldn't be dismissed.

KO is not "my type" (I hope ya'll can read between the lines :) ), but he is one fine specimen "for a guy.". He's the only "newscaster" I can watch without wanting to vomit and scream at the my television.
Atgggg.....KO over...Rita on "live and direct" from....(somewhere in Tennessee). I certainly don't give a crap. I don't mind Nancy Grace as much as her...good god!!!

26. This is kinda OT, but I want your input.
My b/f is a HUGE baseball fan - Boston Red Sox is his team (he's from there).

In order to get him something extremely special for Christmas (because, yes, I'm sure we'll still be together. Hell, he's already said he was going to marry me someday and knew it from the day we met), I'm going to have to save.

Sooo... what do you think I should get him? I already got him some Sox golf club covers as just a treat because he'd bought me so many flowers and dinners and cooked for me and taken my son out and, you know.

I, seriously, was considering emailing Keith and asking HIM what he thinks I should get the serious Sox fan. Something that, for not TOO much of a fortune, would blow his, LOL, "sox" off. :)

Ideas?

My letter to the A hole who wants to fire KO

Sir,

With all the garbage you have on your air you go nuts on Keith? Son wake the hell up. He is good. He gets ratings. He makes
you money. He allows his guest time and space to answer the questions and state their views unlike many other so called
news programs. Piss him off and you can do for MSNBC, what the owner of the Boston Red Sox did when he sold Babe Ruth to
the Yankees.

BTW you paid money to people who hired Rita Cosby, and Tucker Carlson? Now those are some folks to get pissed at.

I live in Ohio and KO was one of the only national reporters to cover the criminal acts in my state last election. Someday when
the truth comes out his act of courage in showing the real story will help insulate your network from the other media ******
who did not cover the biggest story ever. The footprints of that crime can still be seen today. Such as the results from the
latest special congressional election in S.W. Ohio. Look @ these #s from Claremont County. Do you think their is story here?

53. footprint of vote fraud i.e. smoking gun
Look at it ...... the more the # of voters in a precinct the lower the %
of vote for Hackett (the democrat) the precincts w/ < then 187 votes went
to both the republican and the democrat. After that every precinct went
repug with an ever decreasing % for the democrat.

BTW Hackett the democrat was wining w/ 300 of the 700 precincts reporting
the last 91 precincts in Claremont county (after they stopped the vote
due to "humidity") took the race from 50 50 to 48 vs 52%

Claremont was one of those "funny" Ohio Counties that gave bush the
election ...... even precincts that Gore won in 2000 w/ more registered
dems voted against Kerry in 04.

BTW Rita Cosby :puke: She was like the girl a guy would go out w/
because you knew that you were going to get lucky.

55. Wish I could.
I am out, out, out of vacay. Is the rally on Saturday? I wonder if flying in first thing Saturday AM and leaving on Sunday would be feasible?

57. The rally is Saturday, so maybe you could fly in Friday night
or early Saturday morning and leave Sunday. I and a few others from Michigan are flying in early Friday afternoon and leaving late Sunday afternoon.

I'm coming with Livvy, Mrs.Grumpy, and Progmom for sure, and maybe Passing Fair.

59. Well, I just dorked around on aa.com,
and what with the time differential, I would have to fly in really late on Friday night -- arriving at midnight or 1 am.

What airport is best to fly into? I know nothing about the Washington area.

67. if you're going to stay with Botany's brother in Greenbelt
probably Reagan, although that's probably the most expensive. Coming out of DFW, wouldn't Dulles be cheaper? Baltimore would be cheapest, but you don't want to drive all that way at oh-dark-hundred.

70. If you can get a flight into National (DCA)
Edited on Thu Aug-11-05 07:46 AM by SharonRB
that would be the best and most convenient. Dulles and Baltimore are further from the city. National is in Arlington, right near downtown.
(National is the same as Reagan, but I never, ever call it Reagan.)

60. My email to viewer services at msnbc
Subject: Rita Cosby is unwatchable

We neither need nor desire an hour of her inane tripe disguised as news. I can feel my brain cells dying a painful tortured death whenever she graces my screen. I have no problem finding better things to do with my time during her show, but please for the love of God, stop putting her on Countdown.

If your goal is to dumb down your viewing public, I am more than willing to pledge to drink a guinness on the days when you want to put her on Countdown, but think better of it. I am sure others would be willing to take this pledge with me, if it will make a difference. We want to help you meet your goals, but there are certainly more enjoyable ways for us to kill those pesky cells in our noggins.

69. Why the FUCK did they pre-empt the late show????
Goddammit, they put Rita on LIVE with a fascinating update of how they captured the escapees. After 10 minutes, they ran out of things to talk about.

I hope they haven't buried Peter Jennings yet - otherwise, he'd be spinning in his grave.

At least I saw an ad for tomorrow's Countdown - let's just hope that it's for real. (yeah, I'm getting paranoid here)

Edited on Thu Aug-11-05 10:25 AM by gkhouston
poor Dan "why isn't my grandmother on fire?" Abrams vamping while waiting for a glimpse of Martha getting out of prison? I have no idea why they think we need to see the play by play on this crap when they could do a few minutes and then cut back to other stories, but this has nothing to do with Kaplan's tantrum on Monday.

Damn, but they're pushing Rita hard. Either they paid too much for her or they're worried about that 9pm slot getting a "failure" aura or Kaplan is playing his last card or all three...

81. hee
I'm not worried about our boy. He's going to be on DP today instead of tomorrow. I'm guessing (guessing, mind you) that that's because he has another mid-day commitment tomorrow, say a routine follow-up with the oral surgeon, and he can only afford to be out of the office for a hour or so tomorrow because he's got a show to prepare for. KO's weathered worse internecine conflict than this and Kaplan would be nine kinds of fool to cut him loose at a time when ABC is being forced to seriously consider what they're going to do for an evening anchor. Charlie Gibson just isn't going to cut it; he's likable, but he can't ad-lib and I don't think he has or can acquire the depth. Koppel doesn't want the job and as much as I respect his work I think they need someone younger. I don't know if ABC was even thinking of KO before this blow-up, but you can bet this little blow-up on Kaplan's part has made their eyes swivel in Keith's direction, simply because they think he might be up for grabs. The smartest thing Kaplan can do is STFU and let this blow over.

I thought it was funny, too, and amazing how much of that shit translates into dysfunctional behavioral patterns in different workplaces, isn't it? I can't get over how quickly that hour goes by and apparently KO feels the same way; he seemed mildly surprised that the time was up. I'll bet he wishes he could stay longer.

87. I love hearing him with Dan.
He sounds so happy! Like a pig in mud!

I thought the ending of this Countdown bizarre, though. First, it seemed strange to re-air Animal Hall of Fame again so soon, and kind of lame. Then to just run out of time and kick it ovr to Rita before it was done...it's not like the show to run over time. Very strange. I was glad to see all was back together again tonight.
