Better than the old gray, but still not my fave. The tie is nice though. :loveya:

This isn't new, it's new-ish. It's the new grey suit, a tad gangsta, but so much better than the other. Sorry, DG. :)

22. So true, Pats... so true.
As if I needed any encouragement.

The cable guy re-did the connections in the basement, too - and now I've got a stronger signal on my office TV. The color is much better.

Keith looks good in gangsta. :loveya:

to do that Goodfellas accent when describing the aquarium that served sushi?

154. Yeah, Old Mill-Water. Stroh's is Dee-troit beer.
To this day, I still associate it with watching Indians games on TV as a kid. By then already, the local beer situation had pretty much dried up and everyone in Northern Ohio was stuck with Stroh's and Genny.

This was, of course, in the days before the microbrewery and craft beer revival.

160. Horticulture types???
This reminds me of my favorite story about Dorothy Parker. Seems everyone at the Algonquin Round Table was playing one of their usual fun intellectual witty games. On this night they had challenged each other to find a way to use the word "horticulture" in a sentence.

Dorothy's contribution: "You can lead a horticulture, but you can't make her think."

was a scholar of her work.

Used to tell us, "People think she was being funny when she wrote 'Men seldom make passes at girls who wear glasses.'" But really, it was a cry from the feminine soul."

How true.

I craved them the whole time I was pregnant.

I am an intelligent woman. I know the risks.

However, I still just don't have the urge to quit just yet. I suppose it has to come from within and, in all honesty, I'd rather smoke than get overweight right now, which I know will happen if I quit. Sadly.

191. there's a cure for being overweight
and believe me, if i can lose 50 lbs, so can you. but you are right, it does have to come from within. everyone needs that "i'm not putting up with this shit anymore" moment before doing anything.

but think about this: think about what your son is going to think & feel when he sees you weak in a hospital bed, hooked up to a bajillion machines and notices that your hands, the hands that have guided him, taught him, loved him, those strong hands he came to rely on for so much, are so weak they can barely squeeze his hand. i can't even begin to describe the loneliness & abandonment i felt at that point & i was an adult when he died.

because that's what happened to me when i saw my dad for the last time. and he noticed that i noticed & from that point on, it was a downhill ride for him because he felt that he let me down.

196. Yes we all have to die of something
but we shouldn't have to die of something we could have prevented by not smoking. What happened to my dad at the end of his life was pure torture. Thank God he had a DNR because my idiot sister-in-law was blathering on about keeping him going at all costs. For the last year of his life, my dad spent at least 2 to 3 weeks EACH MONTH in the hospital because of all his problems. You know, most people only get that one phone call in the middle of the night....My brothers & I got 13. After the 5th, I started pleading with God to show mercy on him & take him now.

He had bruises all up & down his arms (side effects of some drug he was taking), his skin was paper-thin & fragile, his hand-writing damn near unrecognizable. He couldn't talk because he had a tube shoved down his throat & the nurses ignored his notes to check on how his stocks were doing until I told them he had been brought up dirt-poor & was worried about leaving my step-mother with nothing.

To see my dad go from someone who had a vibrant, active life to a shell in a bed being kept alive by this drug & that drug & a machine for this & a machine for that was really hard to take, even if I was an adult when it happened. Trust me, if you love your son, you won't want him to go through this. Stop being selfish & making the ciggies your #1 priority & just quit.

201. Wolfie is right. Sad, but right.
I cannot tell you how many times I have heard people rationalize their smoking with "Well, we all gotta die of something." But do you, necessarily, have to die of something slow and torturous while those who love you look on helplessly, wishing there was something they could do and knowing there is nothing? And do you have to do it at a relatively young age, like when you are 40, 50 or 60, vs. 80 or 90?

Sure, people can end up dying slow and torturous deaths for other reasons. But then at least they and their loved ones know nothing could have been done to prevent it.

It comes down to one big question, and you probably don't like hearing it phrased this way, but it's true: you have to ask yourself which you love more--your son, or the sticks. Face it, you don't love the sticks. They are just an addiction. And addiction is slavery. And none of us would come out in favor of slavery. And it's not even slavery to a person--it's slavery to a THING.

What you need is to stick a picture of your son on that cigarette pack so you see his face every time you reach for one. Might make you think.

No one says addictions are easy to break. So get help. It will be worth it.

Sometimes we hang on Fridays, but mostly, that's the night away from one another. He was here all last night, though.

ALTHOUGH...

He did make me switch to lights.

I was smoking regulars.

And, he fussed at me Saturday because I bought mediums to go out drinking with him and my buds (gotta have something stronger when I drink, which, ironically, is how I got started.)

203. Hm, this makes it tougher.
It would be a lot easier if he didn't smoke and really wanted you to quit.

I don't think there is all that much difference between lights, mediums and regulars. They are just marketing ploys to convince yourself you are not doing yourself as much damage. Who wants to be a sucker for the tobacco companies?

I think one of your problems is, as Keith said, you associate certain actions in your day or life with smoking. Like, when you drink, you have to smoke. You have to break that association and think that every time you have a drink, you must smoke. You don't.

'cause I think you're going to marry him, Clark, and you just might want another baby. You planning on quitting cold turkey five minutes before you get knocked up? If you don't feel ready to say you're completely quitting now, try shifting your nicotine dependence to the gum. At least your lungs will catch a break and you won't be getting the tars and other shit that's in tobacco. Since you chew every now and then for a nicotine "hit" and leave the gum parked a lot of the time, you might find yourself gradually chewing less and less often... perhaps eventually substituting regular gum for the nicotine stuff some of the time. If you don't feel ready for the big huge step, try a little one... and then another... and another. Perhaps doing it by increments is the solution for you. And if Gavin's really serious about you cutting back, then he can get his butt out of the river Nile and join you.

190. Hi all!
Don't get to posting much, but I loved the countdown classics!

Purple is the 'in' color for clothes for 'Red Hat' ladies. Perhaps you've seen a group of women out having fun, all wearing purple clothes and a Red Hat! The women are older than 50, but younger women can be seen wearing lavender clothes and a pink hat!

And this leads me to an observation. For older Red Hat ladies in their 60's and 70's, I have observed that those with the smoothest skin have never smoked. Those who smoked in their younger days all have tons of wrinkles.

If there is one thing that may help a person to stop smoking, ask yourself if when you are older, if you want a face looking like a prune. Even Oprah had a doctor on her show who said smoking caused wrinkles. So whatever it's worth, that's my soapbox, now I'm off.

Goodnight all.

and I am not going to lie and say I look like a Playboy centerfold because I don't, but I do think I look younger than some other people my age because I don't have the smoking wrinkles.

If you want a prime example of what dissipated living does to you, look at Keith Richards...now there's a guy who has done every bad thing to his body that you can possibly do. Sure, he's still alive and kicking, and for all we know, he could just have good genes and live to be 100. But he looks like the living dead. And he has for a long time now.

before melting into sleep. Worked on the deck again today only it was 100 degrees and do not want to know the dew point. Back at it tomorrow with the hub then Sunday on my own working on it because he goes back to work. While we work out in the heat the ferrets are conspiring, trying to raid the treat drawer get into the closet, having secret meetings to figure out ways to escape and thinking about a coup de tate. The cats and dogs are laying about doing as little as possible and staying as close to the AC registers as possible.

Loved the bingo balls and watching Keith try so hard not to laugh until he was rolling.

Hey Clark, best part of the bf offering to buy you a mini after his truck is paid off is that he plans on still being there in two years. :woohoo: On gift shopping for him, just start looking now for BoSox stuff and if you see something you think he would like and you can afford grab it. I got my mom a Jim Palmer autographed rookie card a couple years ago for a whole $15.00, she is and always has been a Palmer fan. Also, when a friend of hers that was as much an Orioles fan as she was moved to CO she bought an Orioles poster, sent it to O's headquarters and ask if they would have the whole team autograph it. She did explain what it was for and sent a paid postage stamp. It took about 2 months but they did it, added a nice letter to the friend and mailed it back to my mom. She said it might of cost her all of $10.00 but was priceless to her friend. Worth a try with the BoSox, would be unique and bf would never expect it. (unless you let him read this.)

Rev, welcome to high speed internet. You'll love it. Time to go get all those videos clips you haven't bothered with in the past.

Seito, nice to see you back neighbor. Wondered where you went AWOL to. Between you Sparky and others there is now the MKO. (Missing KOEB'ers)

My fav Keith part of the night is on...night all sweet dreams.

194. Now I see - it's the eyebrows.
Someone is using a browner pencil on the wooly caterpillars, and it just clashes badly when he wears grey. Brows should match hair. Even Ronald Reagan learned that the hard way (in his first presidential debate, he had jet black hair and grey eyebrows. In the second, he had jet black eyebrows to match.)

Keith, if they're telling you the brown will make your eyes pop out, don't listen to them. You'll end up like our favorite runaway bride.

206. Ah, the connoisseur of makeup speaks!
I never thought of it that way before. Oh, to be a browner pencil that I could walk barefoot through those wooly caterpillars! (faint)

If they're going to care that much about his caterpillars, they should also do a bit of plucking of the stray hairs once in a while, if he'll let them. He has a particularly stubborn little patch of them on the side of his left eye toward the nose that occasionally reads on TV as a nasty zit. Of course, it's just a little hair patch that somehow got set adrift from its caterpillar. But on some nights, it looks like a zit, and I wonder if someone's not hitting it separately with the pencil on those nights--either that, or one of his makeup people knows enough to draw fake hairs between the caterpillar and the patch to connect the two, and others do not.

He *could* have the stray patch plucked. But maybe he doesn't want anyone coming near him with a pair of tweezers. Wax?
