It seemed very fitting that they had that parade. One day maybe I'll have a chance to go.

i have to keep telling myself that, otherwise, i'll go nuts.

i was in the store on saturday & saw a can of cafe du monde coffee & chicory.

glad to hear the residents feel that strongly about their neighborhood. i hope they can all return soon.

30. They are actually getting power
That area was spared a great deal of water. It's just going to be a matter of whether everything's rotted and full of disease and how long it will take for the rest of the city to be able to begin to function.

My suggestion is a new WPA, The Rebuilding of New Orleans. Seeing how much they love FDR and his policies, that's not happening.

There are people who actually think the left is delighted and thrilled with watching all this death and destruction...and why? Because they can use it as yet another excuse to damn you-know-who.

Uh, no. Not so much. It would have been a lot better had they not had to have such great justification.

71. Yup, I have thought that. Did you see "Oprah" last night?
WOW. She was pissed. Sure, she grandstanded a bit, but darn it. SOMEONE HAS TO.

74. Because NO ONE gave the order.
Edited on Wed Sep-07-05 08:33 PM by Patsy Stone
That's why the ships were waiting. That's why the National Guard and military wasn't mobilized (forces outside Louisiana). The shit starts at the top and now it festers in the waters of NO.

92. The most stultifying sight I saw that was NOT on TV last week
was going to the Red Cross Web site and reading for myself that they were not going into NO because they were not being permitted in by Homeland Security because of its fear that if the Red Cross brought in food and water, it would "attract people to come into the city."

Sheesh. I could not believe it. Get in a crisis and the Red Cross will not be there to help you--but maybe it's not their fault. Maybe it's just that Homeland Security doesn't want you to become too dependent on handouts.

I could not believe it. I mean, yeah, they wanted to get people out of the city, right? So why not get those buses going and LET THEM GO? Why lock them into their "shelters"? Why not LET THEM GO??

Edited on Wed Sep-07-05 08:59 PM by Patsy Stone
can do for you! This is the government we have. Federal powers and riches are not there for the people. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps or die; it's that simple. The government needed to give back some of the taxes because it has too much private money, see. Don't I feel glad that I got my $300?

how did Harry Connick Jr. make it in and out alive?

88. That's what I said.
It's scary when your biggest leaders in a major American crisis are John Travolta, Kelly Preston and Harry Connick Jr. But dammit, you have to handle a crisis with the leaders you HAVE, not the ones you don't! Be that Sean Penn, Jamie Foxx, Jada Pinkett Smith, whoever!

I always turn it off as soon as the camera shifts only to her.

I didn't hear him use any snark. Did I miss something he said after that?

104. He didn't snark Rita
He snarked the woman who made the remark that the firefighters should rethink their committment to FEMA (!!!!! :wtf: !!!!!), firefighting & the citizens of this country after they quit because she was going to have them hand out fliers instead of doing the firefighting stuff they're trained for!! And 50 of them had to go serve as props for shrubbie!!! :grr: :banghead:

:patriot: to those who did sign up & quit in disgust because of how they were being misused.

110. Ah, OK, thanks for 'splainin'--the "tail-end snark" comment was about
Mary Hudack or however she spells her name.

I couldn't tell because of the pronoun "her" and the posts jumping out of sequence.

Whew! I didn't miss Keith snarking on Rita! Good! (I'd still like to see that, though I doubt I ever will! He's too much of a good little team player now to snark others at the network!)

As entertaining as that stuff is, I prefer the real news that's made Keith famous - and a shining light.

Notice how the other "journalists" are beginning to copy his outrage? Or were they just comatose for, oh, 5 years?

I'm limiting my Katrina watching to "Countdown" and "Daily Show." I can't take more. It's too heartbreaking.

...looks as if that picture of David Gregory is going up again behind the clubhouse bar.

But this time it will have to compete with the giant shrine erected to Keith, under which we the KOEB faithful place fresh flowers every day!

95. Yeah, but what's starting to bug me is that for all the praise Keith gets,
there are just as many people saying that the WHOLE NEWS MEDIA COLLECTIVELY were asleep before last week and have only just now woken up and grown a backbone.

Whereas, we always knew our Keith had EXTRA backbone. :loveya:

And I admit. I miss the snark. I miss the laughter. And who the heck doesn't wish all of this had never even happened?

Keith is our light in the darkness and I thank God for him and that he's proving it so well. But damn, it's SOOOOO dark...

97. Aw, Berry, ya made me cry!!!
Because you're right. The darkness is overwhelming. That's why I'm limiting my Katrina time, because it's too easy to get swallowed up in it.

You know how the truth always comes out in the end? Hold on to that. The praise for KO is starting to pour in, at last. (Anderson Cooper also deserves every single bit of praise he gets.) I almost feel lately when Keith's snarking away, it's as though he's saying, "C'mon, Rick Kaplan. I DARE you to fire me."

Thank God he's willing to put himself...and his credibility...on the line, way before anyone else.
