President Bush on Monday got his first up-close look at the destruction in New Orleans, afterwards telling reporters that he didn't believe there was any racial component to people being left behind after Hurricane Katrina. Bush made the remarks at the end of a tour that took him through several flooded New Orleans neighborhoods. Occasionally, Bush had to duck to avoid low-hanging electrical wires and branches.

A lawsuit spawned by a $1,133 bill to clip a toenail and run some tests at a hospital has been certified as a class action. One unidentified doctor who had a procedure on his own toe at the hospital was billed $1,200, including a facilities charge of $1,138. "I call it obscene," the doctor fumed. "There has to be some sense of appropriateness/fairness/reasonableness to our charges."
