58. open house at my daughter's school
lots of their artwork, etc., although my favorite is always where the teacher has written down three or four sentences each child gave in response to a specific question. This time the question was apparently, along the lines of "why am I special?" and the answers were all over the map.

2. Can't stay, but:
:loveya::loveya: KO!

Excellent show so far! Currently, two GD threads going. I liked that they used the * in the humvee/jeep video. Not buying the mea culpa, KO? Me either.

I, personally, like that * is ready to apologize and take the blame...on Thursday. Not now, Thursday.

So, in the meantime, don't yell at *, he's going to apologize... on Thursday. Blecccch!

Also, more :loveya:s for you, KO, for asking, "Is that all there is in the Rove playbook?"

You know I'd be there in a heartbeat, but I don't think that's the kind of assistance you need right now. :loveya:

Can you delegate? If all else fails, do as Scottie did on Star Trek... mutliply your work estimate by 4, thereby getting a reputation as a miracle worker.

but were too polite to mention it.

Sorry to hear they're into administrative anorexia where you are. Amazing that so many businesses are worshiping at that altar these days, with so many people out of work -- and then they can't understand why the people they do still have on the job are sick and stressed out. It's a false economy, but so much else about this economy is false; why should I be surprised?

on edit: and let's be honest, would your assistant really be an "assistant" -- or a fiendish minion? }(

35. Not only that, but it was like second on the FEMA list after Red Cross!
Disgusting!

But I'm glad Keith mentioned one of the overlooked stories of last week...that TONS of small businesses got "9/11 loans" to help them out when their businesses were supposedly affected negatively by 9/11...and many of them had nothing to DO with anything affected by 9/11 (or if so, only remotely) and are nowhere near any of the sites hit.

Example: a dog boarding parlor in Colorado. They were able to get a loan because they were supposedly affected by people taking fewer trips and thus not needing to board their pets!

There are other examples. Fast-food places in the Midwest. A dentist, of all people. (And he doesn't even care. He's glad he got the money.)

Essentially, small business owners who needed a loan went for help and got loans...and if some of those loans were 9/11 loans, well, sometimes even THEY didn't know. A way was found to get them a loan...any kind of loan.

37. Maybe some of them ARE worser.
I mean, there are reasonable things to think, and then there are the :tinfoilhat: things.

Things are bad enough without having to come up with goofy conspiracy theories. You know what they say: never attribute to malice what you can attribute to sheer stupidity. Or thoughtless, uncaring neglect. Or greed.

63. yes, I think the conspiracy buffs are underestimating the greed angle
they think blivet** withheld aid because he wants to kill black people or institute martial law or <insert your favorite theory here>. I think he wants to privatize a lot of stuff so he and his buds can rake in the cash. You thought Grant's administration was corrupt? Pikers, compared to this lot. And I think Grant personally was not corrupt, just none too choosy about selecting his entourage.

38. Oh, in case anyone was wondering, Cleveland got no evacuee group.
Prepared, but nobody was sent. The city is just using what it pulled together to help people who got to town under their own power and could use assistance now that they are there. It will not be housing anyone on cots or anything.

At least the resources are there to help people who did choose to come up get established in some sense of a life again. Some are saying they will never go back. They're going to make a new start in Cleveland. And you know what, Barbara Bush? The locals don't find THAT "scary" at all.

And, my snarky comment, tinged with love: sparky came by, and I missed him! At least I got to read the rose-colored trail of glory that his footprints made with yours.
