A brief post from DC
it's all over now. i'm back at my hotel. for all i know, sharon is still down at rfd's, kicking up her heels w/the other du-ers. (and sharon says "HA! I can barely move!") Seriously, we stood for three hours before the march & then didn't sit down until late afternoon when we made a detour to a Borders to use the facilities.

I can say that we were very well behaved. We followed Rev's orders not to taunt the freepers, but we did flip off shrubbie when we marched past the White House. There are tons of pics out there that I'm sure will be posted in the next few days.

It was an amazing experience to be caught up in that huge crowd, marching along with the DU banner (lots of applause & cheers for that, btw). Sharon, CC, & I kept a look-out for Catch, but we never saw her. :(

Well, I'm about ready to pass out, so I'll sign off now. I'm sure Sharon & CC will check in tomorrow when they get home. :)

1. And CC is home
with sore feet and legs. It was great, and caught out local news and the march was on at least 2 channels here. Was great meeting people, including and specially Sharon and WDG. WE had to get back to the zoo crew so didn't make the party tonight. Stayed around for Joan Baez then Jesse Jackson after the march. Headed to the Vietnam Memorial (Ter is a Vietnam Vet) Then back out and home. I lost the group when I tried to get some large crowd pics. Sorry guys but figured out it was be in the crowd of pics of the crowd, Wish the rest of the KOEB could of made it.

And here is a pic of WDG and Sharon.

As much of the DU group as I could get.

2. So glad you got pics!
How many times did you have to explain "keep your knees loose"? :)

3. I didn't have to explain at all
So you will have to ask dg about that. Another pic here with Intheflow and Blue_in_AK.

I have some more pics though not enough, I am too short and they didn't name me Grace so did not try climbing anything to get good shots.

Off to bed now, my feet still hurt.

4. Too bad the ferrets don't give foot-rubs.
Thanks, CC.
I read in another thread that Catch helped carry the "there in spirit" sign.

I was being lazy and replying to both you and DG in the same post.

Sweet dreams, you anarchist!

So I saw Catch and didn't know it. sigh I have a pic of Here in Spirit in that bunch also.

7. a couple of times
to people who've never seen the show. a few people who do watch the show asked me what it meant. mostly  to that & the other side, which was my D.A.R. sign....one DAR came up & asked if there actually WAS a DAR 4 Peace group within that organization because she wanted to join it, but I told her I doubted it....hmmmm

liv said she saw a large keith olbermann banner but we never saw it. i guess it was too far ahead of us. :(

6. you got my sign!!
before the rain got to it!!! i tried my best to protect it (held up the other side of it) but it still got smeared. :(

it was great meeting you & i'm sorry you couldn't hang around for rfd's.

funny about the actual march. sharon, liv & i would march & march, turn around & look for the banner. until we got past the collection point, we were always within a few yards of it (at one point tho, it was 1/2 block behind us, then got ahead of us somehow).

8. Good for you guys.
Glad it all went so well. Hope something of you shows up on Countdown tomorrow.
After all, certain DU'ers are already angry at the MSM for supposedly ignoring the whole thing in favor of Rita.

17. unless the media helicopter
doing donuts around the crowd had a super-telephoto lens on it, i seriously doubt it. we do have bets that tokenlib's "meet the fuckers" t shirt (w/pics of shrubbie & darth cheney) will end up somewhere on tv &/or the web...so many people stopped him for photos of it!!

24. You mean this copter?

That wasn't media but US Park Police. Use the lens to read the side because I thought media at first too.

Here is another shot.

Now back to work and to remember to log out on the mac. Rarely log in at work because I don't want to forgot to log out though do read when I get a chance. Hopefully I'll be around Thursday night for the show.

I cropped this one in closer for you. Sorry the rain got it. You really need a bumper sticker and pin. And maybe start a DAR for peace group. Wouldn't that just mess with the brainless freep heads.

I sure hope Sharon doesn't mind her pic up so often. (Must stay away from interesting shots to stay out of pics, or have the camera.)

11. I don't mind, CC.
I don't take great pictures, especially after I've been walking around in the drizzle and my hair's a mess, but no matter.

14. You look great.
I hide behind the camera as much as possible. You defiantly do not look like you were on your feet or drizzled. Are you home yet or still in DC? I really wish we could of stayed through today at least. Though the animals were upset and are needy enough over being gone Friday night and Saturday. I do believe they are a bit spoiled.

23. OK, now that I've seen the photos......
My bad, I think I was introducing myself as "Denise" (real name!) after getting so many blank stares with "catchawave". Yes I remember speaking and hanging with you guys on the curb :) I had a blue t-shirt and jeans shorts on!!! Then helped The Witch with her sign, since she's such a tiny thing and that sign was big and bulky.

Now that I think of it, I may not have been introducing my username to DUers....LOL....that is, assuming everybody around the DU banner was part of our group. :silly:

Whew, first protest and DU Meet-up ever! I have learned many, many lessons, especially Must.Not.Be.Shy. :)

Who was the tall lady with the really cute, really short hair? I didn't see her in the photo. We had a few chuckles over creating a smoking section :)

you, if only for a minute. And hell, I lost the whole group and couldn't make RFD's since I had to get back to the zoo crew. Hope you get over whatever is going around (that I hope I don't get) soon.

12. I'm baaaaaaaaaack!
Edited on Sun Sep-25-05 06:50 PM by SharonRB
Got home about 45 minutes ago and sent Livvy on her way. She left her car here and my hubby drove us to the airport on Friday and picked us up this evening.

We had a fabulous time and the rally was beyond incredible.

I can't believe Catch was with us and we never knew it. DG and I kept calling out her name and no one answered. I'd love to see her photo so we know who she was.

My feet will never be the same. Between the sightseeing Livvy and I did on Friday, the march yesterday and the additional sightseeing we did today, my feet and legs are dead. We walked all the way around the Tidal Basin -- we went to see the WWII Memorial and the FDR and then just kept walking around until we got back to the Smithsonian to catch the Metro to get back to the hotel to catch a cab to the airport.

We probably met about 70 DUers between Friday night, yesterday and last night -- different people showed up for different things.

Besides CC, DG and me, bettyellen was the only other KOEBer (Livvy does show up occasionally).

on edit: Since I don't have a digital camera, my photos will be a while in coming.

I think there were a number of DUers we never met.

Well, I'm off the watch WW, DH & GA. See ya'll tomorrow night.

15. Glad you made it home alright
and took me a good part of walking today to get over sore feet. We ended up walking up to the Foggy Bottom metro...long way from the Vietnam Memorial and all uphill. You were smart to walk back around to the Smithsonian. It was great meeting you and Livvy too (Hi Livvy it you read)I'm still jumping up and down with joy over the turnout and the positive energy.

We might get a few more people dropping into the KOEB. I told them I can't always keep up but no one has ever jumped on me about it. (A few said they just can't keep up so only lurk)

16. hi sharon!
:hi: glad you made it home. i toyed with the idea of going to see the wwii memorial, esp. after my friend (who kept calling & calling during the march) told me i had to go see it...i kept asking her "do i have to WALK there?"

my feet & legs are sore, my shoulder is sore from carrying all my swag in a purse & not a backpack (i will NOT be doing that again), but i'm so glad that i went. my only regret is not springing for digital camera so that i could capture some of the sounds of the march....i can't begin to describe the cacophony of noise that was generated by the marchers....for starters, they had us march down concrete canyons, so the reverb was spectacular....and every now & then they'd have a shout "wave"....folks way behind would start yelling & the sound would just keep moving up the street until everyone was shouting.....hope we violated a few noise ordinances.

19. Hi, DG!
My leg and hip are killing me today.

The WWII memorial was great. The extra walk yesterday did me in, I think, but I'm glad we went.

Again, it was great meeting you and hanging out together. Hope you had a safe trip home without too many delays.
