a freeper posts why he could not make the massive pro bush & pro war rally today (@ least 50 showed up )
<Folks, on the ride down my car broke down. I had just crossed the Delaware bride when my radiator blew. I just made it back it the Jersey shore after limping and going through about 10 gallons of water. My wife had told me via phone what a respectful croud we had, unlike the trash that was there yesterday.>
I winder if he teaches English Lit or Comp @ Princeton?

1. I wonder if the Delaware bride is like the Runaway Bride |
|
and whether crossing her gets you in a lot of trouble.
Seriously, though, there are times when it is a bit of a cheap shot to ridicule people's opinions because of their typos or spelling errors. I just wish I knew when the line is crossed.
I guess my feeling is that we all have a good laugh, but how much does it mean? Even when Keith does it or I do, I ask how much does it mean? I'm sure I make a mess of typos, but does that mean the substance of what I have to say is fit to be tossed on the scrapheap?
Never mind me, I'm just being cranky today. I guess what I'm trying to say is, let's criticize the guy for saying that the people at the protest yesterday were "trash," not for the fact that he can't spell "crowd." After all, if he'd attended the protest yesterday, probably no one here would care about his typos or lousy spelling.

This goes beyond typos but to the mental acuity of *'s base supporters. Not the rich oil types and their families or the business types who are millionaires but to his "shock troops" who will call radio stations just to tie up air time to keep the any alternative message from getting out and so on. These blind followers give bush and his cronies an air that he is a "legit" President of the United States ...... and that he is not.
Their simplicity allows a Karl Rove to manipulate them.
And it wasn't just the typos in his message that got me.
<Folks, on the ride down my car broke down.>
Go ahead deconstruct that sentence.
No science but fundamentalist dogma. Iraq = 9/11 = war on terror. It is the "liberal media's" fault. Fox news is real news and they give a "fair and balanced" treatment to the issues. It is fine to spend more then 5 years and 55 million $s to look into a BJ but an investigation into 9/11 can take less then 1.5 years and spend far less. Public schools are failing there fore lets dump 'em and put the money into private Christian schools ...... and so on.
We must out them and shine a light on their stupidity ...... and as far as their feelings, fuck em.

3. But typos don't always mean lack of mental acuity. |
|
Sloppiness, yes, sometimes.
As for me, I dislike all the people who follow this guy who are blind about it...the "shock troops" and the rich oil types, etc.
There are some people who are conservatives whom I otherwise like. I just think that when it comes to their politics they are blind and just don't get it. Or are in the process of slowly waking up or something.
As for deconstructing sentences...I have seen some pretty bad ones on DU, too. I guess that's where it's hard for me to know where to draw the line. Some people are brilliant when it comes to math, but just can't write very well, or whatever.
Anyway. I agree with you on the illogical lines of reasoning as exemplified by the last paragraphs. But I don't think the only reason people believe that garbage is that "they're stupid." There's more to it than that. And it's not their "feelings" I'm concerned about...it's whether or not just saying "they're stupid and we have to show that" will work.
I guess I'm part of the school that believes there's more than stupidity at work getting people to believe these things...and until we understand THAT, and how to undo it, we will continue to wander around in circles trying to change anything.
I get frustrated too...but in general I have found it un-useful to simply label the opposition "stupid." I mean, the freepers call Keith "stupid" all the time...and we all know objectively that that isn't true. In the end it just devolves into name-calling. "You're stupid." "No, YOU'RE stupid." I am as guilty of it as anyone else...I just admit it is not too constructive.
Is Karl Rove stupid? No. I don't think so. He is a genius at making others dance to his tune. He is a genius at fooling scads of people into thinking an un-presidential man is "presidential." Just one example.
That's all I'm trying to say. As long as we tell ourselves that people don't see things the way we do because "they're just stupid"...are we going to get anywhere?

I am sure that i make tons of mistakes and that my writing is bad too.
But to bottom line it, he is a dumb ass. And so to wit he and his ilk are manipulated by the masters of message manipulation. Bush & company. I think it is something like 75% of fox viewers still think Saddam had something to do with 9/11 and that is why we are in Iraq.
Remember Joseph Goebbels said, "The secrete in telling the big lie is to just repeat it and repeat it." Meaning after awhile "it" the lie sinks in and becomes part of accepted thought. Rove* counts on people like this shit head to help him in his evil ways.
2 other things.
* the sentence was not a complete one * spell check???????
As for changing things ..... If it took 20, 30, 40, or 50 years for this asshole to get to be so dense their is nothing you or I can say and or write that would alter his way of thinking. All certain people have to do to get this guy to do their bidding is to wrap themselves in the flag, God, Country, patriotism, and or love of the troops and he will follow blindly and lash out with venom and anger @ those damn liberals who just don't "get it."
* Rove uses a company called Creative Response Concepts of Arlington, VA to plant stories and mobilize different parts of their base. Google em and see what they do ..... dimes to doughnuts they helped in the Freeper anti Cindy protest in D.C. today.

5. Ok, not going to get so |

long and involved but can only say, there is a reason they call those warning lights in your car an idiot light. Wondering how long he ignored his to need that much water to go maybe 60 miles, tops and probably less if he was from the shore. The Delaware "bride" connects DE to Jersey.
Berry, I have to record KO tomorrow since I will be at work. Looking forward to a great opening for the thread when I get home though.
