Edited on Tue Jan-03-06 08:17 PM by Patsy Stone
Ooh, Jack... You sing so beautifully. I have to applaud the name "Capital Athletic Foundation". Sheer genius, and a nice FU to all of all.

It's all a joke anyway.

What happened to those miners, I fear, is no joke. :-(

I remember KO from his ESPN appearances with Dan, or as we like to say it, back when ESPN was more like "Sports Night". I've still got a crush. Now, my husband puts up with me drooling every night.

I've been reading this forum since mid-November when I found it. There are a lot of great people here.

113. It's the Keith connection
You have to be of a certain mind set to really appreciate KO. He has a multidimensional grasp of the world around us and communicates the absurdity of it all. His fans understand this and comment appropriately. He's also a wise ass. His fans understand this and comment appropriately.

137. I think you hit the nail on the head, Mabus.
To be a fan of KO, it helps not to take a lot of life too seriously...except for the part that more people SHOULD take seriously. Keith seems to follow the philosophy of the Absurdity Prayer:

"Lord grant me the ability to laugh at the absurdity of the world wherever it exists, the courage to change the problems of the world that really do need changing, and the wisdom to know the difference."

Or something like that.

The Flying Spaghetti Monster has agreed to give me a ten minute warning before my demise. FSM knows it isn't my fault that I'm the anti-Christ and is pretty reasonable about it.

you got your bestest Christmas present ever all ready and eager to say "I do". I'm sure everything will be fine, especially since you, unlike a certain pop-eyed non-bride who shall remain nameless, aren't looking to have a pull-out-all-the-stops "perfect picturebook wedding". That way lies madness, IMHO.

140. It's not the CO2, it's the CO.
CO2=carbon dioxide...not poisonous in and of itself, but can suffocate you if you have nothing else to breathe because you need oxygen.

CO=carbon monoxide...poisonous...actively sucks oxygen OUT of your blood and hence deprives your vital organs of it until you die.

Just a little science refresher there.

Either way, it doesn't look good.

Only problem is, I'm having trouble streaming Stephanie. I downloaded Windows Media Player for Mac but I'm just learning why Bill Gates was dragged into anti-trust court, he doesn't want Mac users to be able to use proprietary programs, or he's making it very difficult. Anybody have Macknowledge about how to get Windows Media Player to work or any suggestions for streaming on a Mac?

But unless I watch it on the other computer (we have a TV card installed), I can't.
I must give up the TV after Countdown since the Orange Bowl is on and is currently playing on said computer. :)

143. It has got to be hard living the kind of life where it seems you have few
alternatives but to go to work in a coal mine like everyone else you know has done forever.

If you have read the book "Rocket Boys" or seen the movie "October Sky" (the titles are anagrams for each other; how cool is that?), you get a feeling for what it's like to grow up in that world and have dreams of doing something else. Life is dangerous, but working in a coal mine is especially so. :scared:

This story about the miners sends shivers down me. My dad's father was a coal miner in West Virginia as was his father. Thankfully, my dad found he couldn't do that kind of work(tried it for 6mos--claustrophobic) and joined the Marine Corps instead.

I'm really praying for all of these miners and their families.

I have pretty much had it with being called a backwards hick from a backwards state that deserves to lose all the soldiers it has lost in Iraq because we, the voters, all voted for * and are singlehandedly responsible for his re-election.

Especially when I'm convinced our election was probably stolen.

I also have to add "skill set". I hate that phrase.

123. Also, I hate "I'll tell you what"
That's crept into everything. I'm amazed at how often I hear it. From NASCAR to the news.

124. I forgot how many years Lake Superior State U (in Michigan)
has been doing this. They've retired a lot of phrases in past years.

129. Marketers in Cleveland started saying Dawg because Dog was copyrighted
...by the Cleveland Browns football team. That was back in the days of Hanford Dixon and Frank Minnefield, the best defensive backfield team since the Raider's Hayes and Haines. They would start barking after they shut down the receivers in coverage, and that's where the whole Cleveland Dog Pound thing started. They got on the cover of Sports Illustrated doing a high five. Ahh, those were the days.

158. Yeah, but didn't the University of Georgia use it even earlier?
I say this with some sense of history. I grew up in the glory days of the Dawg Pound. Ah, memories...

156. Yet there was something ironic about Keith saying that people don't
care about the private lives of newspeople...doncha think?

He should have said "...Except, of course, for those perverts over at the KOEB. They track every move I make."

177. what is it about Orlando?
I went to a conference there once. At the convention center (which is enormous) they had simultaneously scheduled a computing conference, a scientology conference, and a porn conference. The porn people didn't faze us, but some of those scientologists were :scared:

instead of on the far side of the scientology conference, I would have visited their exhibit floor but it was too daunting a prospect and my feet were tired.

They say it for everything, especially on the local news, and 99.9% of the time it's some minor news story.

128. "the" blogs
Like we are Borg, or something. For the record, the best place on the internet is a message board, not a "blog" and it's called the Democratic Underground. There is no egocentric Eschatonakos telling us all what to think. Although that Skinner gets kind of schoolmarmish at times...like during the primaries. But still !!

160. Here's my favorite one from work: "best practices."
Oh my goodness. If I could take THAT one and toss it out the window.

No one talks anymore about figuring out what works well and then telling others about it, so they can do the same. Nope. Everyone "shares best practices." :scared:

165. 'Shot execution-style' especially when uttered by a bubble-headed...
bleached blonde and 'three troops were killed in Iraq', tell me, when did the plural noun 'troop' come to mean the singular 'soldier'? 'Chilling' which is used every night by Mandy Murphy on the local Faux News broadcast and which she accompanies with that irritating little shake of her head. I'm sure I can think of some more but these are the ones that irritate me the most.:banghead:

Mandy Murphy's delivery can best be described as 'unctious'.

KO:hi:
