It was emergency surgery during my second pregnancy with my son, second trimester, and so any drugs could've harmed the baby and I wouldn't let them give me any. It was simply hallucinogenically excruciating but I lived to tell the tale. Frey's account of it either was personally experienced or he talked to somone else who did go through it because it read very real to me. The rest of the book was somewhat cliche ridden, but not overly so.
