Edited on Thu Jan-26-06 07:46 PM by Botany

Do I sense a:

First

then the students @ Georgetown turned their backs on Alberto G.

Blood is in the water ..... bush is going down.

We might very well not stop Alito but bush is taking a huge pounding .......
I will be very surprised if he finishes his term.

Party on Garth!

Oprah is right. I defended the book at first because I had just read it and I'm a sucker for rehab stories. But this guy is a supreme asshole and a lying little shit.

He can hang out with the blivet now, they've got a lot in common.

68. I wrote him a letter today. I told him I had called his office crying when
he schooled Fristula on the Senate floor about the Constitution. I begged him to consider that Alito's statements about the 'Unitary Executive' is just as grave danger to our Constitution. I'm making more calls tomorrow. I hope the email gets there quickly, perhaps they are bypassing the usual waiting period before those get read, which is ordinarily two weeks or more.

Edited on Fri Jan-27-06 11:28 AM by gkhouston
to my mind, that means even if the good people of West Virginia don't understand or approve of his actions. Letting Alito slide in on a promise not to make Bush king is not in the best interest of his constituents or the Constitution he professes such reverence for. The word of an honorable man is indeed more binding than any contract, but Alito's reactions vis a vis Vanguard indicate that either his memory or his morals are wanting.

they shouldn't become millionaires and be rewarded for their lying however.

I guarantee, I think Oprah will hound Frey to do just what Frey mentioned, to donate some of his proceeds from the book to drug rehabilitation centers.

102. Hey, it didn't stop Lawrence Kudlow.
For those of you fortunate enough never to have seen or heard the sanctimonious Larry Kudlow, here's the scoop. He was an economist for the Reagan administration and has had a successful career in punditry and the like, always backing the gospel of supply-side economics, tax cuts, etc.

He also had very public addiction problems, for which he sought treatment about 10 or 11 years ago. There was some talk at the time that such disgrace might give him trouble in resurrecting his career.

I don't need to tell you that not only didn't his career tank, he is one of the most self-righteous, pontificating little pundits that pollute the airwaves and print. You'd think the 12 steps would bring a healthy sense of humility, as well as empathy for his fellow human beings, but no such luck.

http://www.salon.com/news/col/cona/1999/08/24/bush/print.html

"First, let's consider the typical drug defendant, who as we all know is likely to be a young jobless male without a high school diploma. A disproportionate number also are black or Latino. The average sentence for narcotics possession meted out to this typical defendant is roughly four years behind bars, according to statistics compiled by the Justice Department.

"Upon conviction, the prospects for this typical offender are poor, since he is unlikely to receive treatment and will eventually emerge into society with a criminal record that leaves him pretty much unfit for any kind of work except the criminal conduct that sent him to prison in the first place.

"Now let's examine the contrasting case of a more fortunate druggie -- a prominent Reaganite not altogether unlike the current Republican presidential front-runner. Lawrence Kudlow, the conservative Ivy-educated son of a rich New Jersey businessman, once served as chief economist for the Office of Management and Budget during the Reagan administration. Later, he earned $1 million a year at the investment house of Bear Stearns. He was also a cocaine addict who checked into the Hazelden clinic in 1995, after he blacked out and his third wife threatened to divorce him.

"Following successful treatment, the reformed Kudlow has told his sad story on television and returned to the good graces of his sympathetic fellow Republicans. He currently advises the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee on tax and budget policy, no doubt urging big cuts in domestic spending (including publicly funded drug treatment programs for those who can't afford Hazelden or the Betty Ford Clinic)."

We now return to our regularly scheduled snarkiness and hypocrite-busting!

40. actually the root canal without benefit of anethesia was the most
believable part of the book for me, it's what made the rest of it more believeable for me. I have had root canal without anethesia. It was emergency surgery during my second pregnancy with my son, second trimester, and so any drugs could've harmed the baby and I wouldn't let them give me any. It was simply hallucinogenically excruciating but I lived to tell the tale. Frey's account of it either was personally experienced or he talked to somone else who did go through it because it read very real to me. The rest of the book was somewhat cliche ridden, but not overly so.

96. Yeah, I guess that
having a Jewish girl say your post was "Christ-like" would be like a white Catholic-raised guy tell you how great that Manischewitz wine is with a good pork sausage.

71. need I mention that one of the videos of OBL purporting to show him
claiming responsibility for the World Trade Center is also not the same man as the one in all the other OBL pictures and videos. Not saying that he isn't responsible, just that that wasn't him in that particular video. Things that make you go hmmmmm.

89. Just read your epic post ....
..... I agree with everything you say except the walking out part .....
It would feel good @ the time but Rove owns the mic & cameras
it would be spun very badly for the dems.

But on Alito time for a Philly Buster! And if a senator can't support the
philly buster ..... don't vote yes or no on cloture just abstain.

98. The walkout idea is controversial,
and while I don't think it will ever happen, I do hope that all the pushing we do for them to take a dramatically strong stand will help with the re-spining.

The rest of it, I stand by. They've busted the government. And Americans don't abandon the Constitution because they can't catch a guy in a cave.
