does anyone know...........
why at the end of every show, Keith says it's been 1013 days since Mission Accomplished was declared in Iraq?

I think it's a nice idea, I was just wondering if there is a specific reason for it.........

2. Yes--he's only been doing it for the past two nights.
It's very in character for him. He likes to call people out on their hypocrisy--and he probably thinks the "Mission Accomplished" statement is one of the biggest pieces of hypocrisy out there.

In some ways it's a harkening back to the days of the Iranian hostage crisis. Back then, TV shows would say this is "Day 132 of the hostage crisis" and so on. I think for Keith, this is a way of putting his own "countdown clock" on how many days it has been since Bush said "Mission Accomplished"--and how many days the war has gone on PAST that day. As a means of calling attention to that fact. And it will no doubt be commented upon. (Except, of course, by all the people at DU who never watch his show but are still convinced that all of the media are freeper whores.)

6. seems appropriate
as we're hostages of the Bush terra campaign... which is just as manufactured as the timing of the end of that crisis.

3. I wondered actually
if part of the reason was that since it was Oscar season, he didn't want to seem like he was plugging "Good Night, and Good Luck".

Regardless, :loveya: for doing it, KO!

8. I'm wrong
I checked the transcript and he says both. He eliminated "Keep your knees loose".

It was a good thought, but that means the ulterior motive isn't superficial. Cool!

9. tonight I noticed..........
he said 'day 1014' and then he said Good Night and Good Luck!!

So apparently it's something he decided to add to the end of the show.

7. This is Keith's version of the Vietnam era evening death counts.
Each day some of the major networks would give the number of dead. I can't remember if it was Walter Cronkite or another newsman. Sad figures, Keith's message brings the same thoughts to mind. Someone has to keep these figures in the forefront. Why not a nightly reminder of the number of dead soldiers? This madness has to stop!
