My dad once spent a weekend unsuccessfully hunting quail. Up before dawn, didn't come home until late, smelling to high heaven. Never saw one stinkin' quail. Monday morning, he goes to work. Later that day, Mom calls him at the office.
Mom: Honey, there's some weird-looking birds in the back yard.
Dad: What do they look like?
Mom: Well, they're small, kind of chubby, brown, with antennas on their heads. And they're kind of walking in a straight line.
Dad: :loud sigh: Those are quail.
Mom: Well, whatever they are, there's a bunch of them. Is it okay to let the kids outside?

Unfortunately for Dad, the subdivision where our house was had just been incorporated into the city limits, so he couldn't rush home & go hunting in the back yard. And you can't convince me that my mom, who grew up in South Texas, had NO CLUE what kind of birds those were when she called my dad.

Just popped in for a moment to say howdy. Will be watching Keith in the 12am hour as my all time favorite sporting event--next to the Kentucky Derby--is on. The Westminster Dog Show!!!

I never miss it. Sheridan's grandfather won Best in Breed there in 1996, so I love to watch and see if a relative might make it into the Sporting Group ring. :)

The first one melted overnight due to heavy rain and 50+ degrees. Then four days later we got another one.

Looks like it will now be in the 40s on Friday and the 30s the rest of the weekend and the chances of precip have gone down to 20-30%. Looking much better than it was the other day when I checked.

She was the runt of the litter. My daughter wanted a dog so badly, and I needed one that didn't shed and I wouldn't be allergic to. She did have that haircut sometimes, but we didn't get it cut as often as we should have. I often cut it myself, so it wasn't always professionally done. She died of liver disease two weeks before my daughter came home for the summer after her first year at college.
