The coverage of this Colbert story has really served to drive home the fact that the press is morally bankrupt. To a person, except for Froomkin (so far) they have been predictably clueless in covering this story. Some of the people in the different threads have jumped all over Keith because he didn't tow the line and sing Colbert praises. While I thought Colbert was brilliant, I'm certainly not going to dump Keith and never watch him again because I didn't care for his handling of the story. I didn't think Keith was that bad. Milbank on the other hand, I thought, was clueless.

We have so few voices in the media right now that to dump one because I don't like something he might have said is ridiculous.

The people who watch Keith tend to hve minds of their own. They don't listen in to hear what Keith's "take" is as if it's some sort of guiding force. He played a lot more of the speech than anyone else and let Colbert be heard. Those who thought it was funny and witty and a good indicator of the boob in the WH, will still think that. Those who never heard it, got the chance to hear some of it and make their own decision, and those who were prone to dislike it wouldn't have changed their minds if he said it was Shakespearean in its writing.

No harm, no foul, no impact, imho -- except as tonight's argument in GD, replacing whether Will should leave DU or not.

1. "He has no balls."

4. "He is afraid of losing his high-paying job."

Keith probably spent time trying too hard to be "fair and balanced." (And no, I don't believe the other theory either, which is that he's professionally jealous of Colbert for having more cojones than him. Please.)

To my mind, the mistake he made was trying to ask questions of someone whose answers I wasn't going to like because they were typical MSM crap. ("Did this go too far?" "No, but it wasn't funny." "Will this hurt the president?" "No, it won't hurt him. He'll come out smelling like a rose.")

He should have had Craig Crawford on there. THAT would have been interesting.

Then again, if the worst thing he's guilty of is having someone on who didn't get it, well...or for whom it hit too close to home...

I just wanted to see Keith take a different tack on it than the MSM. The good thing, however, is that he did run a lot of the speech and let it speak for itself, rather than ignoring and marginalizing it like many of the media did, rushing to paper it over with "Yeah, but that guy who did the Bush impersonation was the REAL star of the show."
