A campaign to have Keith's WTC proposal adopted would be good. |
|
. . . I think Keith's proposal to rebuild the WTC with one tower shorter than the other as a memorial to the victims has great merit.
Keith's concept may very well be the key to reconciling advocates of re-creating the towers exactly as they were, and those who wish to have a very visible reminder of the tragedy. The familiar sight of the two building might also help restore a sense of normalcy to the surrounding community.
We could help promote Keith's proposal.
Anyone here ever undertaken a campaign of this type, and can suggest a plan? Besides the Port Authority, who else should be contacted? Any ideas/advice would be appreciated.

(Missed you on the show blog last night, BTW, Whirly.)
Pataki should be added to the effort. Someone should start a petition going right in the city, I think, so that the people can hear about it and get behind it.
The problem will be with ever getting everyone on the same page. There are so many different opinions about what is best. It will be like herding cats.

. . . or squirrels. (Can't find a cartoon I had of a herd of stampeding squirrels, where one of them is saying, "Over there -- isn't that a peanut?" and you know in one second half of them are going to start stampeding in THAT direction.)
Seriously, though, it depends on how weary people are getting of not having this question resolved. They really need to start putting something in that space, and I think the last ones to give up are the folks who feel ANYTHING built on that ground would be sacrilege.
But I think you've put you finger on a central point, Berry, namely, that New Yorkers want to be the ones to decide this. Americans may feel 9/11 happened to all of us, but New Yorkers are understandably and I think justifiably proprietary about the attack on the Towers specifically. You're right when you say the campaign to implement KO's proposal should be centered there.
PS: I answered one of your posts on the meeting thread, very late. And added a nature photo at the end.
