It's Like The Petro Industry Is At War With U.S. Auto Manufacturers
The grab for petro profits has got to be making the auto manufacturers tear their hair out. After years of producing vehicles that guzzle gas, the oil industry thanks them by jacking up fuel prices thus stabbing the auto industry in the back.

My heart doesn't bleed for the auto makers. But it's a thought that occurred to me. That they used to work together to screw the public and the environment be damned. Now, it's not enough for the petro guys. They'll do anything - even screw an industry they need.

It's so sick when it could be so different - with all boats rising and the environment healthier. But no-o-o-o.

1. The people who buy this stuff have some responsibility as well.
Corporations would not have manufactured SUV's if people had been less deluded about the "need" for these things.

The fact is that the world is running out of oil because the Western World has been pigs about using the oil.

The car makers and the oil companies may have preyed on our stupidity about the subject, but we are complicit inasmuch as the information about what would happen has been out there.

It should have been obvious.

3. I'm not so sure.
It seems like when gas prices go up, people run out and buy a new car to cut costs and when gas prices go down, people run out and buy a new car that is roomier and more comfortable. If gas prices simply stayed the same, I suspect more people would probably tend to keep and drive their car longer.

5. Honda begs to differ.
They plan on scaling back their hybrid production because they claim that there is no demand. And gas prices are really bad right now.

It didn't really pass the smell test to me, but that is what they are claiming.
