I Don't Friggin Believe It. They Voted Out Ophelia Ford. WTF????
I remember watching this story a while back and glad the judge intevened. But Wednesday, the republican fuckers won, for now. I just found this story in my email from a friend, and since I don't check my mail often enough it is a few days old. Looks like all of DU missed it though.

snip

The Tennessee Senate voted 26-6 today to unseat Sen. Ophelia Ford, accepting the recommendation of a committee that found her election "incurably uncertain."

The Senate, led by its GOP majority, voided the Memphis Democrat's 13-vote victory over Republican Terry Roland in a September special election after a federal judge on Tuesday declined to intervene.

An investigative committee, which has been at work since late last year, recommended Ford be ousted after finding the election results were "incurably uncertain" because of 12 improper ballots. Two were cast in the names of voters and others came from felons and people from outside Senate District 29, the committee said.

Rest of story at link. The hypocrisy here makes me sick to my stomach.

2. I don't understand...
Why is it hypocritical to object to people who are voting when they shouldn't be?

7. The votes weren't improper
I'm friendly with a couple of lawyers working representing these voters on a pro bono basis and there is a genuine argument that they were, in fact, residing in the district. The GOP has been playing games like trying to force these working class folks to have to go up to Nashville on their own nickel to explain themselves.

3. um, what a minute....
she won by 13 votes, but only 12 were deemed improper? I didn't read the story. What am I missing here? Besides the fact that the Repubs are in the majority.

6. She's a Democrat.
She's got to win by a landslide, or it doesn't count.

Sometimes a landslide isn't enough, either.
