Human Events: "30 Republican House Seats in Jeopardy" and FREEPS react:
http://www.humaneventsonline.com/article.php?id=14222

...according to John Gizzi, HE's Political Editor. The number of House seats up for grabs (speculation) seems to be growing.

With President Bush's popularity at an all-time low, hovering in the mid-30s in most national surveys, and the conservative base of the Republican Party increasingly dismayed with the President's performance on issues such as runaway government spending and immigration "reform," chances are increasing that the Democrats could eke out a majority in the House of Representatives in the elections this fall.

Four months ago, I concluded that there were 20 Republican House seats that were vulnerable to Democratic takeover, now I believe that there are 30. To achieve a majority, the Democrats would need to win a net gain of 15.

FREEPERS react: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1620524/posts. In summary, lots of Freep infighting over immigration... Immigration seems to have surpassed prosecuting the "war on terror" as their big issue! WOW. I'd say they are a depressed, demoralized and disgusted bunch. Here are selected posts:

The GOP does not get it: NO immigration

So they will learn the hard way. But only accompanied with more democrat induced immigration.

We want (R) to stay in control no doubt about that but we who love America cannot allow open borders that undermine our security and cannot allow rewarding lawbreakers.

Solution? Pass HR4437, build a wall/fence place armed guards on the border till it is built and above all NO amnesty!

Should we care? Both want open borders and big government?

Do both want abortion on demand?

Do both want eliminate of a citizen's right to own guns?

Do both want to cut and run in Iraq?

Open your eyes and see something other than illegals.

Speaking of which, it was House GOP who are most responsible for coming up with 4437.

IF we are to lose one house ( a colossal IF), rather it be Senate than House. Lots of good GOP conservatives there.

It is incredibly simple! Stop the leak! Close the borders. Nothing else is needed at this time! First stop the hemorrhaging; then deal with the internal problem later. That's all the American people want. Solve the problem with the illegals already here later. We've let it fester for years. We have got to protect our borders FIRST!

Nobody denies there's a problem. The differences lie in the solutions proposed.

And, then, there are those of us who are just sick and tired of the whole thing.

24. I really like the "Impeach Bush the Liberal so Cheney can take over" meme.

Having spent a depressing year and a half posting
on FR I've come to the conclusion that FReepers
are like the denizens of Jonestown.

They wait until they're in the line up to drink
the sacred kool aid before it dons on them that
they are being asked to commit suicide as the
ultimate sacrifice to the fearless leader.Yet
they still hold out the plastic cup for seconds.

A few revolt at the end only to be gunned down
by Jimmy Jones inner circle of drug addled gun
runners.

Dubya is just as narcissistic and certifiably
insane as Reverend Jimmy. The only unknown is how
far Bush will go in order to defend his paranoid
ego centric world view.

They are keenly aware of how shitty things are. The gas prices are slapping them in the face. The are mad at the oil companies and the "politicians". Yet they refuse to believe that Dems are the solution. They are so brainwashed to that fact that its impossible to vote Dem. But they are mad at republicans too. Therefore I think we could be seeing a record low GOP turnout come November.

These are people who feel their party has abandomed them, yet they are so brainwashed that they will never vote Dem.
