Poll: 82% of Americans OPPOSE Alito. Memo to Senate: FILIBUSTER HIS ASS!
Edited on Tue Jan-10-06 05:17 PM by StefanX

(1) He RECUSED himself on the Vanguard case because he was personally involved with them financially -- then UNRECUSED himself. (Meanwhile, he bumped a judge off a tobacco case for saying something negative about tobacco companies, and he forced a judge off an asbestos case for attending an asbestos victims' meeting.)

(2) He LIED about being a member of an anti-women, anti-minority Princeton group -- then after DENYING he was a member, he turned around and explained WHY he was a member. (See dailykos for details.)

(3) He SUPPORTED letting cops strip-search a ten-year-old-girl and her mouth without a warrant when they were going after a drug dealer -- and even MICHAEL CHERTOFF (yep, THAT Michael Chertoff), who was the other judge on the case, overruled his dissent and publicly ridiculed Alito for being a RUBBER STAMP.

(4) He subscribes to the UNITARY EXECUTIVE theory (found NOWHERE in the Constitution) which basically says that the President is King.

(5) He is ON THE RECORD opposing a woman's right to choose -- and he's such an ass-kissing power-worshing insensitive type of guy that when the Dominionists and Theocrats try to take away even stuff like condoms, you can bet he'll support that too.

Five reasons why an overwelming majority of Americans oppose him -- all relating to big hot-button issues in the media RIGHT NOW. Unethical on Vanguard, lying about being in a racist, misogynist group in college, supporting (Iin a DISSENT ridiculed by CHERTOFF) WARRANTLESS strip-searching of an innocent, univolved ten-year-old girl, supportive of Bush's plans for a monarchy/dictatorship, and against the right to choose.

Over 8 out of 10 Americans oppose him. And the Democrats in the Senate need to STAND UP FOR THE MAJORITY OF AMERICANS and FILIBUSTER this guy.

And in a few months, everyone will realize that the only reason we had to filibuster him (instead of just voting him out) was because the corrupt Republican machine had Diebolded and Abramoffed DC so that they could "LOOK LIKE" they had a 51% majority -- when in reality, they probably only have 20%.

3. Hate to burst your bubble
but that's an internet poll (I believe) and shouldn't be read as evidence of anything. Net polls are really, really unscientific.

4. DU that poll - no need.
We already did. Somebody did, anyway.

Not scientific, but it felt good, anyway.

5. I know that and you know that
But if internet polls are so worthless, why do they get plastered across our TV screens like that?

I'm just taking it as an artifact -- not as scientific. But when you go to war to save this country from collapsing, you go with the internet polls you have.

And when the poll results are that overwhelmingly against someone, it doesn't matter if the sample population is "self-selected". It's clear to see that PEOPLE DO NOT LIKE ALITO.

9. Are CNN polls more reliable?
Edited on Tue Jan-10-06 05:23 PM by goclark

The ones that they put up and take down at the drop of a hat?

Isn't Gallup a friend of the Bush family?

Should we believe the NY Times poll?
Edit: All of the polls only reflect what the Lie Media wants us to believe at that moment.

Rove is still in charge.

AliTO has got to GO !

14. Yes. CNN polls are more reliable.
Even assuming sampling errors and even bias, real polls are still more reliable than internet "polls" which are *nothing but sampling bias.* If a poll can be DU'ed or freeped, it by definition tells you nothing about real public opinion. An internet "poll" that shows, say, 80% of people in favor of impeaching Bush (as one did the other day) isn't just unreliable or unscientific -- it's entirely meaningless.

Not that people aren't free to spend their time DU'ing away, but the notion that we're going to make any impact by sending a "poll" like this to senators is probably harmful as well as ridiculous. We don't help defeat Alito by looking like fools.

17. Republicans think we are fools without sending them a poll

Thanks for the information about the DU polls and the Freeped polls.

I use to think that they were of no value but not anymore.

The way I look at it now is that if I DU a poll I have a right to do that, I am expressing MY opinion.

One night I was watching MSNBC and they posted a poll that I had learned about from DU, one that I clicked into.

My friends said, "Wow! 55% of the people think that GW lied about the War!"

In other words, most believe whatever they see or hear from CNN or read in the NY Times.

The exit polls were reliable until the Republicans decided they were worthless.

They made us look like fools because we were foolish to allow them to define reality.

No guts, no glory!

19. Does that go for Bush's low approval ratings?
Somehow I doubt it. But the real issue isn't whether CNN's poll is accurate. I tend to think they are relatively accurate. But who cares? Making decisions based off polling is leading from the rear. The majority of Americans are against giving gays the right to marriage. The majority is wrong and that is why the Supreme Court is important. A great Supreme Court justice is a justice who flies in the face of public opinion when it means protecting the rights of the minority.

25. Do you truly believe 82% of Americans could even name Alito?
No way. Many, if not most, Americans are either
DUMB or APATHETIC... or both.

7. Umm, not exactly.
82% of people that voted on CNN's little poll oppose him. It's not even close to accurate.

12. The question should be
were you coached, were you prepped for this hearing? Did you have mock run throughs about the questions you knew you were going to face? If so how many hours did you spend rehearsing to give "the proper" answers to this committee?

And why did you agree to that or participate? Are you going to need advisors when you're on the Supreme Court?

11. Sorry but online polls don't count
They tend to be self-selecting and unscientific.

It's probably closer to 50-50, give or take 10 points.

22. Independents are split (34% for confirmation; 38% against). It looks like
Americans want "choice" by a large margin however. That is good news. Also, the inde's favor his opposition according to your article by a 4% margin. If we sell a fillibuster properly and people take an interest in the hearings and his whiny contradictory manner, that margin should increase.

15. He's a republican, isn't he?
By its very nature, that means he's a lying hypocrite. That doesn't mean he's not smart. Sharp as a tack. And I'm sure he's just a real nice guy. He sounds like someone you'd like to have over for a barbecue. But he's a republican, which means he's an opportunistic, lying hypocrite. There's absolutely no reason to believe a word he says, since he has clearly documented that he is prepared to say whatever he needs to to get the job.
