Wow, an argument dumb for even a Freeper
I was talking to a friend of mine today that's about as big of a Bush supporter as they come. I brought up the fact that Bush's approval rating is only 33% right now and that's going by a Fox poll too. His genius retort? Well, Hitler had an approval rating of 99% and Bush only has a third of that. That means that he's nowhere near Hitler, despite what people say about him. He said that Clinton's higher approval ratings meant that he was closer to Hitler than Bush is.

3. So the measure of a great President
is how much the electorate hates him.

9. Absolutely.
Clinton was so bad he had 70% approval ratings. And Roosevelt was so evil he was elected 4 times - THAT'S how much America was against the New Deal and his leadership in WWII.

5. I actually heard Stephen Colbert use that same analogy.
That REALLY shows how ridiculous it is. I think the "WORD" was "Nazis." And he went on to point out how un-Nazi-like Bush is using that same rationale.

15. Ha, I did not know that
This person isn't the joking type and didn't seem to be joking with me today. I'll have to check and see if that's where he got that from.

I do know that there's a lot of conservative friends of mine that really like The Colbert Report at the beginning of its run because they just couldn't figure it out that he was making fun of THEM. It was just so great.

I saw that show. Freeper probably did, too, and thought it was real news.
Doesn't take much to convince them anything on TV is real.

11. That "argument" is taken from the Colbert Report
Of course, Colbert is joking. Perhaps this guy is one of the new, hyper-stupid strain of freeper that thinks TCR is for real.

13. Think of it this way: the core Bush voter is alienated from most Americans
If you dislike gays, feminists, liberals, city folk, immigrants, atheists, jews, and most christians, the fact Bush is disliked by most americians is a huge compliment. The thing you like best about Bush is that all those other people hate him. The thing you distrust of a popular president is that all those other folks can stand him too.

They always knew, moreover, that the only way Bush could put his conservative agenda in place was to lie about it and snooker the majority into voting for him.

The 33% approval is RIGHT where the freeper wants Bush.

that meant for that time that Bush was basically like Hitler? Right?

Both "opportunities" were used to usurp unprecedented power. Same start to both regimes.

Just hope the endings are different.

19. and Bush doesn't have a funny mustache
so he is very far from Hitler in that sense too.

Besides, Bush would probably forget to clean the crumbs out of his mustache, meaning editors at TV news stations would have to do so for him

22. Well, Bush once had approval ratings in the 90's
Does that mean he was once closer to Hitler right after the WTC was destroyed and he invaded Afghanistan? Just asking.
