What do you think of *'s back drop for today? - pics

President Bush arrives to speak about comprehensive immigration reform in Irvine, Calif., Monday, April 24, 2006. As Congress headed back Monday from a two-week recess, President Bush was in the country's most immigrant-rich state to push a stalled bill that would allow more foreigners to work legally in the United States. I'd love to see some journalist dig up the figures and publish them for all the world to see. While Mr. Common Man is struggling to put gas in his car to go to work, Little Lord Fauntleroy is jetsetting around the country with nary a care in the world.

26. This is why it's so hard to parody these assclowns
Like Rush...how can you parody a walking parody? Bush is the same thing...a walking parody. Colbert tries to do it with the brazillion flags and eagles, and in the end it is exactly what BushCo does anyway. Colbert's show has already ceased to become parody...now it's just scary, because he's so dead-on accurate, and the right doesn't even know it. I've heard of some of them who think he's serious and one of them.

Powerful and continuing expressions of nationalism

From the prominent displays of flags and bunting to the ubiquitous lapel pins, the fervor to show patriotic nationalism, both on the part of the regime itself and of citizens caught up in its frenzy, was always obvious. Catchy slogans, pride in the military, and demands for unity were common themes in expressing this nationalism. It was usually coupled with a suspicion of things foreign that often bordered on xenophobia.
