The Amityville mass murderer, Ronnie DeFeo,
was on “Inside Edition” last week, Thursday, I think. He’s supposed to be on some show on A&E today (Monday), but I don’t get cable so I can’t watch it.

He said he killed his father, but his sister Dawn killed the rest of the family, and then he killed her.

What you usually hear is that Ronnie killed all of the family.

A detective who’d worked on the case said DeFeo didn’t have a conscience and you couldn’t believe anything DeFeo said.

I think DeFeo is guilty as Cain, but IIRC, the family members were found in their beds. What happened? Surely they didn’t just lie there and wait to be shot. Anybody know?

1. That's what puzzles me about their deaths. All of them were dead in bed.
A gunshot would wake up people.

2. maybe he put them back in bed???
The whole Amityville story creeps me the hell out. I know the hauntings afterwards were a hoax but I saw the 1st movie really young and it scares the hell out of me.

4. I wondered about that, but looks like there would've been
evidence of that if he had.

Long time ago I read a book about the murders, HIGH HOPES. Also a book called CHILDREN WHO KILL had a chapter about the DeFeo murders.

The father was an abusive asshole. It's not too surprising the way Ronnie DeFeo turned out.

3. Side note- I don't think convicted murderers should be given air time
I am against the death penalty (boy I bet you weren't expecting that on DU) and part of holding that opinion is that I don't think convicted murderers need to be given air time to spew their nonesense. If sociologists and criminalogists want to study them, fine but don't allow them a platform to promote themselves.

Just my two cents.

5. You kind of have a point there. I certainly wouldn't put any
stock in anything DeFeo says. But who knows, some people might be swayed by what the perp says and start trying to get him/her retried or something.
