Republicans trying to save themselves
They're sinking, so now they want to start talking big like they are so good.

Republicans want probe into high gasoline prices

Reuters News Service

WASHINGTON -- Republican congressional leaders today urged the Bush administration to investigate whether oil companies are overcharging consumers at the gasoline pump and if speculators are pushing up fuel prices.

The retail price for gasoline soared 13.1 cents in the last week to a national average of $2.91 a gallon, the fourth highest price ever recorded by the government, and pump costs are forecast to keep rising.

2. Fucking speculators?
If I find out that it's speculators who are causing this price increase...

I think the time has come to nationalize oil. If the price is so sensitive that it fluctuates that easily by Wall Street, then Wall Street and the Oil business should lose their connection.

5. If you find out? Nationalize now!
Doha: Raising production will not help ease spiralling oil prices, Opec said yesterday, attributing the present market volatility to geopolitical tensions and speculation in the global crude trade.

3. They will spend a few billion hiring consultants (trusted family,
friends, and business acquaintances) to perform numerous investigations that will uniformly blame Iran for causing not only the increase in the price of oil, but the mismanagement and squandering of oil resources. The only solution will be to take control of the oil out of the hands of the incompetent Iranians.

6. You had to see this comin'!
Gas prices go through the roof, BU$HCO's friends make a fortune - and then it's the GOP to the rescue, bragging about how THEY got on the WH's back to turn those prices at the pump around, just in time for the mid-terms.

IMHO? This will backfire, big time. If I've been gouged at the pump for months, I've seen prices on EVERYTHING go up because the cost of transporting goods is passed on to the consumer, and then my friendly Republican steps in to save the day - my first thought is going to be:
IF YOU COULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT NOW, WHY DIDN'T YOU DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT BEFORE??????
