Colbert mentions Diebold in his opener! |
|
Edited on Mon Apr-24-06 10:35 PM by Atman
Going to discuss with his guest, Hugh Hewitt, how the republicans can gain a permanent majority, "I mean, besides with the help of Diebold voting machines."
Hittin' the mainstream!

So fucking smug. So cocky about how the Holy Republicans can set up an Empire For A Thousand Years. I'd like to smash his fucking face in with a cinder block. Hewett you pigfucker, people like you have done more to ruin this country that all the terrorists throughout time! You and your "we need to have 60 Republican senators so that we can run things forever"-OVER MY DEAD BODY, FUCKER!

that his working in the Empire State Building ("only blocks from where the terrorists struck on our soil") was dangerous just like Fallujah?

7. The thing I don't like about Colbert |
|
Since he's satirical in his interviews, it takes more attention and intellect to see what he is actually doing in his interviews is lambasting his guests. The problem is, not everyone puts in that much attantion and intellect. For someone who is not up on what's going on and is only partially paying attention, his interviews with right-wing shills could come off as serious support. And so, their message comes across.
I think Colbert is doing a good job with his show, but I think we also need a show where they hammer the shills publically, like Stewart has done in the past.

11. So basically, you're complaining because stupid people don't |

understand it when Colbert mocks people to their face by agreeing with them and sounding like a complete idiot?

Not so much stupid people, but people that are only half-paying attention.
Don't get me wrong: I like what Colbert does. I however pay attention to it, so I really know what he does. Someone who has it on while they are also doing something else (which is how a lot of people watch TV) may get the impression that his interviews are on the up-and-up. So, in addition I think there should also be someone somewhere (I know it wouldn't work on his show) that also gives an honest review to a pile of crap like Hewett's book. Unfortunately, when Stewart doesn't take them on, you pretty much have to go to the internet for popular forums for that-Charlie Rose is a start, but doesn't get the audience that Salon does.

15. If you're watching Comedy Central at 11:30pm on a weeknight |
|
(what's that, a few million at most?)
You're either sleeping, or watching it because you know what's going on with the show. Just enjoy it for what it is. I wouldn't worry too much about what message is being received.

18. Well, that's a good point |
|
And you're right, it's probably not having as much of an impact anyway. I just can't hlep but think, when I see an interview with a pig like Hewett, how nice it would also be to see him get that smarmy little grin wiped off his face.

21. But that's the best part |
|
What other show is he going to go on, only to have the first page of his book ripped out? I know the show bought the book, so I doubt Hewitt cares what they do with it, but that's comedy gold.

16. Colbert is genius. His show is geared towards smart people. |
|
Yet you (and others) want him to dumb it down in an age where such intelligent television is SORELY lacking? Those that are unable to realize his satire, and that he's poking fun at the Right's talking points whenever he opens his mouth, are incapable of conversion anyway. Just leave it at that and enjoy the show!
Maybe he should just turn it into a reality show full of entertainingly mindless dimwits performing silly antics?

17. Colbert also did the interview early on with the democratic challenger |
|
to Harris, which I found to be a revealing tidbit on the money problem with progressives candidates.
Also, I loved the way he added negative poll results to get a positive number when talking with Hugh Hewitt.
He is so fast and clever that his sardonic style sometimes doesn't reach the viewer for the mass consumption and quick rewards of a zinger the Daily Show gives. I have to digest him. I love both shows equally.
