"...The first principle is that we can have an effective and comprehensive energy policy only if the government takes responsibility for it and if the people understand the seriousness of the challenge and are willing to make sacrifices."

1. JC started us on the right path until... Reagan stopped it-- HIS legacy.
Today's gas prices were 20 years in the making. 20 years of bad policy, bad choices. What do we have to show for it? A few people became very rich during Reagan's error. Of course our savings and wages began a gradual 20+ year decline.

3. bringing back the Windfall Profits Tax..Spector and Dorgan
if consumers are going to be overpriced for gasoline..shouldn't we at least expect something back for this money?

Jimmy Carter may no longer be in power, but his idealism hasn't been defeated!

the greatest President since FDR.

It is a national shame that this honorable, foresighted man was not elected to a second term.

5. Kicking to get on the lurking Freepers nerves.
REMEMBER: It was Carter who asked Americans to sacrifice then to think about their children and grandchildren. It was Reagan who phoopooed the idea that Americans should have to sacrifice for anything. So which party has the real and meaningful family values?

7. Thanks for that! Clinton's talking about our oil problem too.
Bill Clinton: "We may be at a point of peak oil production."
