How have these maniacs gotten away with all this?
Because America let them, this will be history's judgement, and the nation's shame. And history will show that we allowed them to get away with far worse before we finally remembered that it is they who work for us, and not the other way around.

1. It will approach, but perhaps not equal, the shame of Germany
post WWII.

Once the truth comes out, and everything settles down, we will realize - I hope - as a country, meaning even the jackoff republican fuckwipes - what a fucking appalling abomination the Reagan-to-Shrubbie-except-Clinton years were.

I hope we hang our collective heads in shame, and say "Never again!"

But I doubt it.

2. Clinton's record wasn't spotless, either.

He supported NAFTA, the WTO, "the elimination of welfare as we know it," and he continued the flyovers of Iraq and the embargo that caused thousands of Iraqi children to die.

As others have said, Clinton was a moderate Republican president.

4. Agree
How can a nation that was drilled with 'never again' do just exactly the opposite and welcome fascism -- including the elimination of civil rights, wars of aggression, torture, a world-wide gulag, massive stealing of the U.S. treasury, massive scandal including massive election fraud.

And it's all being done with a Rush Limbaugh in-your-face "what ya gonna do about it?" aggressiveness.

What would John Wayne say?

6. We have not only allowed a coup to happen. We, at least many
of us , have actually unwittingly supported the coup.

7. they definitely planned on our blind indifference & ignorance
in other words, they think we're all real stupid out here in flyover land and that they could just do what they want and nobody would stop them, like they are in fact doing.

marketeers. We are being hustled by snake oil dealers.

8. most of any crowd are devils...
we think that civilization just fell off the table- it didn't. law emerged thousands of years ago to protect the weak from the strong, though 'the weak' outnumbered the strong etc....what i'm saying is that the bush phenomenon isn't so remarkable, most societies through most of history have be misruled by selfish dopes who thought they were chosen by god or dad or the mighty imp or something, and it's been a fight since adam/eve time to clue the cud chewers in that no one had the right to oppress them; the cud chewers say 'oh c'mon' stop that commie nonsense' and so on.....the american people are typical in that they really really want to be stepped on by their betters (and cluing them in that bush etc aren't fit to step on anyone just pisses the cudders off!)

10. You know why - they told such big lies no one wanted to think
it could be so in America. I guess, proving, that if your lie is so brazen people will believe it for a time because of its size.

And they sure told whoppers.

But what goes around comes around - we are just a little slow in our country. But we also have a tar and feather mentality. I believe when this one "comes around" we won't have to worry about this ilk for another 40 or 50 years.

They cannot win in the end. They have managed to delay (so to speak) the result. "Interest" is compounding, however.

14. The media did more than
"let" them. The media is the third political party and they win all the elections.

16. If we lose here, it will be our fault.
As a society - it will be our fault.

We cannot let that happen. And I believe we won't let that happen.

If things really do go from bad to worse here, who else is there to blame?

It is just us.

I am not going down without a fight, and I don't think anyone else here would either.

Our forefathers paid in blood for the ability of our generation(s) to deal with this matter.

We don't have a choice. We just have to be smart. Smarter than our republican counterparts. I don't think it will be too difficult.

19. If We Lose, It Won't Matter Whose Fault It Is
If we lose here, it will be our fault.

Our country has been stolen from us.
Is getting robbed our fault?
Blaming the victims does not empower anyone,
it just makes everyone feel worse about it.
Doing so in advance is even less productive.

who else is there to blame.

Well, Bush**, of course!
And the horse he rode in on (I think his name is Karl).
And his little dog Scalito too!

We need to keep stirring the pot on snoopergate.
Use the Scalito hearings to do it.
He need to be questioned at... great... length...
especially about his views on Presidential power,
since the Court is likely to be deciding such cases soon.

Keep using the word IMPEACHMENT too. Especially around wealthy Republicans. The have-mores hate having their business dealings snooped on. Most of them would consider it a High Crime.

17. Dem leaders keeping powder dry for the really bad stuff yet to come?
Seriously, this is an important question. Has something to do with a dangerous combination of:

corporatism

religious fundamentalism

decades of planning and investment

media de-reg, media consolidation by GOP tools, media whoring like never before

disregard for honesty

abandonment of the public good by both sides of aisle

lack of a charismatic opposition party straightshooter at just the right time

another pearl harbor

lowering of public discourse and reason

installation of an incurious, ideological, simple-minded, dysfunctional puppet of a president

extreme polarization so that party is more important than country

scary use of single issue scapegoats (gays, immmigrants, arabs, non-christians, etc....building on the tried and true legacy of exploiting minorities such as the irish, blacks, and women for political gain)

replacing rational and truth with fear and threats

Even so, it is amazing that at least some significant portion of the public (or other countries) isn't outraged into action.
