Bush Eases Environmental Rules on Gasoline
At least Bubble Boy is consistent in his fucked up policies.

AP - 12 minutes ago
WASHINGTON - WASHINGTON - President Bush on Tuesday ordered a temporary suspension of environmental rules for gasoline, making it easier for refiners to meet demand and possibly dampen prices at the pump. He also halted for the summer the purchase of crude oil for the government's emergency reserve. Bush also announced steps to ease environmental standards governing fuel grades.

11. Easing restrictions means oil companies won't have to comply
with any pesky remaining government regs aimed at curbing pollution. More profits.

Bush continues to roll-back every good thing in this coutry for the benefit of a few greedy people. It's downright shameful.

9. Indeed.
Why not open the reserves? Can't do that, oh no. They have to go forward with their gift to the oil companies - indeed, to THEMSELVES! They have always HATED government regulation in business, in particular, THEIR business.

This is a gift to the oil companies, plain and simple. The rist gift was Executive Order 13303 just after Bush declared "mission accomplished." 13303 sheilded American oil companies from any legal action here in the United States and prevented other countries from suing them after we stole Iraq's oil from everybody else.

12. Gee, this almost seems like it was planned.
Run up the price of gas, get people hollering for a solution, and voila, Bushboy ups and gives us one. A twofer for him, he can say that he's doing something to help gas consumers and give his oil buddies another break:eyes:

Yep, we've been played for suckers on this one. And sadly, I doubt that this will help prices much, if at all, and our already damaged enviroment will suffer further.

Time to demand real energy policy change, like switching over to renewable alternatives, wind, solar, and switch our fuel needs to biodiesel. Sadly though, I doubt that this is going to happen. We're on our own, so people better start preparing, it's going to get ugly.

14. Yes, it does seem planned. Did you see part of Bush's plan
is to focus on alternative energies? It will be another Rovian twist just like NCLB or the Healthy Forests initiative.

People better start waking up.

Although why during the Clinton administration did we see stable oil prices?

Oh yeah, Clinton and Gore weren't in the oil business.

20. this just increases the profit margin
Prices will stay the same. He'll claim he's stopped them from going higher. Meanwhile, Exxon doesn't have to pay as much for refining.

This is beyond my comprehension. #1 Most horrible, corrupt thing Bush has EVER done.

22. Also, it could be the nail in the coffin for the economy.
People just can't afford it. Add mortgage on top of that, plus high price of education, plus healthcare - a perfect storm!

An interesting thing too is that so many people have moved far out from cities into the "exburbs" in order to find cheaper housing. The result is that any money saved through the cheaper housing is negated by the cost of gas from the exburbs to the city!

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush pressured profit-rich oil companies to invest in new refineries on Tuesday and announced steps against any price gouging to contain gas prices that have soared while his popularity plummets.

He directed the Environmental Protection Agency to suspend federal clean-burning gasoline rules this summer that are forcing consumers to buy expensive new gasoline blends.

Bush temporarily halted shipments to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve as a way to get more oil on the market and try to combat prices that have soared above $3 a gallon.

But he acknowledged that Americans are in for a tough summer on the road.

"Energy experts predict gas prices are going to remain high throughout the summer. And that's going to be a continued strain on the American people," he told the Renewable Fuels Association, a group advocating expanded use of ethanol as an alternative fuel source.

more about the impact high gas prices are having on Republican campaigns and how he's asking his oil cronies to invest in new refineries and more bullshit.
