Just a reminder...even OSAma is a Bush lie...
His name is USAMA. BushCo didn't want people seeing the USA in USAma, so they changed in to OSAMA. Seriesly. Look it up. They've been lying and manipulating public opinion from day one.

1. Now that is seriously paranoid.
Not that I doubt for one minute that the evil Bush regime would do it, but c'mon. In transliterating one language to another, different people willtransliterate differently. For instance, what is the correct name of the city: Beijing, Peking, or Peiping? Well, currently, it is the first, but the others have been used in the past. Whoever heard of Beijing Man?

3. or Beijing Duck for that matter.
But if you "look it up" i'm sure you'll find the right answer. The key is to "look it up" on the right website.

6. Did any of you look it up?
I didn't make up this "theory." I read it in a mainstream publication, though I can't recall which one. I am totally serious. Nothing paranoid about it. Just look it up. You don't have to believe me. I could give a shit, I'm just telling you...the BushCo information handlers stop at nothing to manipulate the public.

14. Here is the actual spelling of his name...
Usāmah bin Muhammad bin 'Awad bin Lādin, according to Wikipedia.

Why is that so hard to translate? Where is the O?

And really...who cares?

I am sorry, but I think what your trying to get across is without merit. I am sorry.

We have plenty available FACTS to keep the Bushites on their toes.

Edited on Tue Apr-25-06 01:37 PM by Atman
And "where's my link?" You've never heard of Wiki?

Why are your panties in such a wad? Why does this upset you so? I just made an observation, nothing more. In 9000 posts here, rarely has anyone got such a hardon for such a trivial bit of info! "TINFOIL!" "WHERE's YOUR LINK!" Piss off. It's called trivia, and I pointed out the actual spelling of the dude's name here. So the hell what if you don't believe me. Your computer has Google, too, doesn't it?

It's obvious that you are not aware of message board etiquette.

When you post a thread... of opinion or baseless fact,it is up to the OP to provide the links.

My panties are not in a wad, I find it telling that you are getting so defensive. :eyes:

I am getting defensive. And I'm getting defensive that you think I don't know the MB etiquette of DU! Who the hell do you think you're posting to? I post SERIOUS stuff here and get half the number of responses that you people seem so freaked out about here! Jesus H. Christ! LIGHTEN THE FUCK UP.

31. even Wiki calls him Osama
your link to the webpage says so...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osama_bin_Laden

Why is this a goverment conspiracy? The spelling of his name is transliterated from arabic which does not contain the american english alphabet. 'O' or 'U' is not that big of a deal. If you want to 'get your panties in a wad' spell al-Qaeda for me...there are about 20 different spellings for that one...

2. Wow, that's some conspiracy there...
but it's particularly unlikely, especially when one considers that the FBI and Fox News -- perhaps the most rightwing of all mainstream media -- uses the Usama spelling.

Of course, Osama doesn't spell his name Usama OR Osama -- he spells it with Arabic writing and both of these names are simply phonetic translations. But pesky facts are so annoying when there's a good conspiracy to spruce up.

4. It's phonetic - there is no "Correct" spelling
Edited on Tue Apr-25-06 01:15 PM by ThoughtCriminal
I once had a job proofreading maps. The Middle East was a mess because no two sources spelled location names the same way. Off hand, I did not notice if news sources started spelling it differently after 9-11

5. I remember noticing the opposite.
It was always Osama, until after 9/11, then the RW press started printing it as Usama - I thought it was to distance themselves from the Clinton administration's use. If you googled Clinton Usama, you wouldn't get the hits that you'd get with Clinton Osama.

11. Arabic to English
is a no-rules free for all. Osama, Usama, at least there's only 2 and we're consistent about Bin Laden. Remember the 1000 variants of Moammar Qaddafi's name?

12. You know that "O"s and "U"s are completely interchangable in the
translation of many names to English, right? Please, take the tin-foil off. People aren't creative enough or dedicated enough to keep 10,000 conspiracies going at one time. The people who operate at the top levels of the power structers in the world are just as lazy most of the time as you or I and they are virtually no more intelligent if they are at all.

28. Just Like What Reagan Did
Reagan wanted the leader of Libya referred to a "Khaddafi."

He did not want him to be referred to a "Qaddafi".

Why?

Because Reagan feared the seeing too many "Q's" would make people turn Queer.

It's the truth!!

Edited on Tue Apr-25-06 02:56 PM by Marie26
Arabic translations will vary. That's why you'll see the Koran or the Quran, Al-Queda or Al-Qaeda. Transliteration isn't always an exact science - w/a different alphabet, there's going to be different ways of spelling the translated word. And plus, according to this article, it's the FBI itself that uses "Usama" while the media uses "Osama." So if there's a conspiracy, the FBI apparantly isn't in on it.
