2. That is the *official* RW talking point.
I've heard it parroted by several pukes last night and today. Their twisted logic says that the problems we have now with oil were started a long time ago by the environmentalists who control the EPA and OSHA; and Democrats who have supported them. Fuel prices are high because of them and their lousy protectionism. :eyes:

28. I actually heard that on another board.
Clinton should have initiated an Ethanol program but didnt due to his getting BJs from staffers.
GWB was too busy with the War on Terror and protecting our freedom.
Its ALL Clintons fault!

4. IIRC, oil refiners closed a good number of facilities in the 90's in an
effort to improve profits. Environmentalists had little to do with these closures.

Even conservatives, however, wouldn't want a refinery to be built within a 100 miles of their homes. So the argument that liberals or ecowackos are stopping new refineries from being built is a load of horseshit.

18. And, expanded existing refineries
They're the ones who adopted the "just in time" Japanese production model, they don't want excess refineries for emergencies.

Still, there's no refinery problem in this country. The problem is $70 barrel oil.

14. This exact scenario has been the oilman's wet dream for decades
and so it has arrived. Environmental laws scrapped with a sentence, oil refinery permit process literally done away with, expanding oil speculation to EVERYWHERE, and speeding up the destruction of the last of the great wildernesses in Alaska placed on the super duper fast track. THAT'S the ticket (said in traditional Jon Lovitt style)

No damn mention about infrastructure at all....nada...zip...public transit? What in the hell is that? (said the way Steve Martin and Bill Murray did it on SNL)

We don't need no steenkin public/massive transit.

We need an ad campaign. 25 years of being rammed up the ass, how many more times are you going to believe the new batch of Republicans are going to be different.

Sorry to gay friends if this is offensive, but I couldn't think of anything to make the point as effectively.

12. Whats with the Missouri comment?
Our state flips back and forth from blue to red regularly, Clinton won here twice etc. If anything we are a good barometer for the country neither side dominates for long.

Right now we are right especially in state gov but I expect that to change this fall.

by 18 or 19 cents.

We have to accept that Gas prices are never going to go back to cheap. You'll never see 1.65 a gallon again. If it's not the War raising prices it's some terrorist farted in the wrong direction that does.

20. Why did RoyOldBoy Blunt leave out
Those Liberal Democrats always demanding higher gas mileage from the automakers?

He squandered a perfect opportunity to blame Democrats for forcing Big Oil to raise prices to keep up with higher gas mileage. Hell it's bad enough that those poor oil companies have to produce cleaner fuels, and Big Oil execs are forced into retirement. Oh, those poor oil execs' families, how will they survive? Those Leftist Communistic Democrats just want punish Big Oil for good ole' fashioned legalized republican theft of the American people. Those people chose their lot in life, and deserve what they get, they should have pulled themselves up by the boot straps and work harder.:sarcasm:

22. Be prepared for anything: the Democrats need a rapid response team
Lies and half truths are the order of the day for the Republicans. Today, Republican Congressmen are taking the floor and blaming Democrats for their ties to "environmental extremists" for high oil prices. Expect this kind of thing and worse between now and early November.

The only Democratic candidate in recent years who really knew how to handle the Bush leaguers was Bill Clinton. In 1992, when first running for president, Clinton had a rapid response team ready and put his side of the story out to the media any time the Bush leaguers distorted facts.

Al Gore should have been ready with this in 2000 and was not. How many people still think he claimed to have invented the Internet? John Kerry should have been ready with this in 2004 and was not. How many people still think the Frat Boy had a better service record in Vietnam than Kerry?

Lies, half truths and distortions will be believed if they go unchallenged. The Democrats cannot afford to assume that just because what the Bush leaguers say is utterly ridiculous that it won't be believed. Just ask Predient Gore and President Kerry.

They don't take into the fact that the supply in the US was lower then projected.
Or someone sneezed in Iran so some trader decided to raise the barrel a few extra bucks because the barrel was in danger of getting cooties on it.

The Republican party says everything but the truth. They are too busy try to deflect blame to the Dems, they are drowning and now trying to drag the Democrats down with them.

It's all pathetic
