“In a land far away at a time long forgotten, there grew a white rose. Perhaps this rose would have been forgotten in history had it not been for the testimony of those who found it. See, in this land was a terrible evil, an evil so vile the very earth became rotten and water became poison. It was truly said and well believed that this land was forsaken by the Lord. And yet, upon a field twisted and scarred black by war, grew a white rose. It lay hidden under a pile of ash but once the soldiers beheld it, each one began to cry. For in that rose, they found salvation.”
I wonder what history will have to say about us; We the People. Will they look back into the distant past on our modern Rome and study why we too failed? Will they look back and wonder why we allowed a great evil to commit atrocities right before our very eyes without even lifting a finger in protest? Will they think we too were evil and lusted after these atrocities? If we fail as a nation, will they even have the opportunity to learn that there were those of us who hated what our Government has done in our name? Will they be merely ignorant serfs incapable of ever conceiving their own Liberty?
Today, I read the Anti-Nazi leaflets distributed by the White Rose Society in 1942 Germany. If you haven’t yet, you should read them too.
