And thus God spake: Thou Shalt Be Allowed To Double Park!
Church-Goers Claim Right To Double-Park
http://www.wsbtv.com/family/8962978/detail.html

Worshipers held a rally Sunday afternoon urging officials to let them continue a practice that has long been overlooked.

The D.C. Department of Transportation was planning to hand out warning tickets this weekend and real tickets starting in July, but officials now say they'll review the enforcement program.

Cars have commonly been double-parked near DC churches on Sundays for decades, but police had largely ignored the practice until neighbors complained.

At the rally, the church-goers blamed new high-rise developments.

So, instead of holding local officials to account for creating more demand of available parking, they yell anti-religious discrimination!!

1. Racism and Religious Discrimination!
It's all over the news here in DC. It's a predominantly black church that's doing the double parking violations. The neighborhood is being gentrified (i.e. cleaning up the crack houses and shooting galleries) and a lot of whites are buying the properties. So, the churchgoers are screaming that it's religious discrimination and racism that's fueling all of this. Um... no. It's about people's right to park on the street outside their house without being boxed in by someone double-parking. NO OTHER CHURCH in DC has this priveledge, AFAIK.

5. Gentrification is such a tough one for me to sort out....
one the one hand - i appreciate the revitalization of communities.

One the other hand a Southern Gay Institution (Backstreet) was shut down after 27 years of continuous peration because the neighborhood got gentrified around them.

With gas prices the way they are, should they just walk or take the bus? How about car pooling?

Where would Jesus park?
