I swear it's a conspiracy! Re: Oil Companies and Repukes
Nothing gets consumers panties in a uproar than having to watch the gas prices go up, up, up in a short period of time. I can tell you that's the talk at the water cooler where I work about how the prices keep going up each day and where to find the cheapest gas prices out there.

The last couple of times the gas prices went up, usually there was something major associated with the increase like 9/11 or Katrina. But this time there doesn't seem to be any major reason for the increase, at least one noticeable to the consumers eyes.

So with who nation frantic about the price of gas and talking about how they might have to cut back on vacations and unnecessary spending, today the talk has come out as to why the increase: Tree Huggers & Democrats. Environmental Regulations and refuse to drill in protected wildlife refuges. We are being put into the blame and why? Because as gas prices increase, consumers will agree to just about anything as long as they can go back to the days of $1.29/gallon gas - hell, they'll shed their clothes and drive naked to the gaspumps if only to save an extra $1/gal at the pump.

And I swear it's a setup. The oil industry has been fighting the Clean Air regulations for years with no success and the Arctic Refuge is still safely untouched. Republicans have been trying their best to dismantle both of these areas with absolutely no avail even with republicans in charge of the house, senate & white house. So what better way to pressure the consumers, especially during a very critical mid-term election with a very unpopular pResident, than to get the outraged over the price of gas and demanding that congress do anything it takes to bring it back to norm.

The scary thing is, we all know that Bush & Cheney both have had long & close ties to the oil industry years before their administration. So I highly doubt it would take more than 1-2 phone calls to recommend sticking it to the consumers (basking in even more profits) in order to get the consumers fighting with them to deregulate clean air and to drill away in Arctic Refuge. And it's going to be a difficult and unpopular battle for us to fight especially with the midterms. Can you see the potential campaign ads being used against anyone who might oppose deregulation/drilling? The repukes will show a campaign add featuring April Gas Station signs with the $3+ gas prices with a voice saying "Democratic Incumbent voted AGAINST the bill that would/did help lower the price of gasoline"

I think this will be a difficult fight

1. They gouge prices to jack profits and create the crisis. Then, through the
magical administrative mojo of shrubco, they bring them back down some just in time for elections!

Maybe it works something like that...

2. With Rove involved, there's no doubt things have been planned.
And, my hubby, who was in the oil & gas industry for years, has no doubt that gas prices are ALWAYS manipulated.

This may backfire, however. I have drastically cut my driving down - pretty much permanently; my goal is to buy a hybrid around the end of the year.

For entertainment purposes, only.

4. Been sayin for ages, they want ALL environmental protection gutted
and they will squeeze working class Americans until WE are theo ones screaming to turn back all the protection regs.

Same will happen with laws protecting workers soon. They will outsource and guest worker a huge part of working class Americans until WE beg Congress to gut all the laws protecting us.

Wake up America. They are forcing you to eat your own children.

5. The GOP knows they're fucked in November - it's all highly orchestrated
I dont even think Diebold will be able to save their sorry asses. Look at how unpopular Arnold's plan to turn California into a red state was (I got a lot of shit here for that opinion but I stick by it). But it's all a highly orchastrated scheme to get back into office during the next senate elections, masterminded by KKKarl Rove himself. The high gas prices are but just a small part. I remember shortly after 9/11 when people feared that gas prices were going to soar to over $5.00 / gal, but it didnt happen. Instead they decided to wait until a time when Bush's presidential "career" (if you can call it that) is at an all time low. Then they raise the gas prices to over $3 - $4 a gallon, and dramatically lower the prices before the elction. Gas prices are just a small part of the desperate scare tactics the GOP is using to win in November.
