What does it mean to "vote your conscience"?
Does it mean that one should always vote for the candidate who is most in line with their own values?

Or does it mean that one should vote with the probable outcome of the election in mind; i.e., use one's vote in such a way that it decreases the chances of the worst possible outcome occurring?

My conscience tells me that I have to keep the end results of the election in mind, even if in a two party system that means not voting for a candidate who is most in line with my values.

5. I Agree With You Definition And Will Act Upon It The Same. But I Think
every individual will have their own personal definition and rule towars "voting their conscience". In this case though, mine definitely lines up with yours.

6. I think the definition changes if you are talking about primaries
or about general elections.

Vote your values in the primaries; vote against the Republican in the election (even if you have to take a deep breath and swallow your bile).

I may be way out in left field, but I'd vote for Lieberman before I'd vote for the most liberal Republican you could find. (Lieberman has a few redeeming qualities, even if he is a DLC corporatist Likud loving Bush kissing...) Well, the Dem will help give us the majority, and the chance to set the agenda. Simple as that.

8. I agree. Occasionally there is black and white, but mostly
we are presented with shades of grey in the political world.

10. In my opinion it means...
Edited on Tue Apr-25-06 06:04 PM by Breeze54
Voting for the "good of the country."

We have created an entire class of people who say;
"that is what you did for me yesterday, but what are you going to do for me today."

I think it means voting for the COMMON GOOD!
Not just for your own personal intersts or one issue!

Vote, what you know in your gut, is the right thing to do...

For me it means to NEVER vote for a repuke!
I've been burned by them to many times and seen
the destruction they cause and leave in their wake.

I've never voted for a repuke and I never will!

edit: spell check...
