5. well, I saw the post about Michigan |
|
and what bothers me is the fact that the ultrasound to someone who already chose life was probably 500 dollars or more out of pocket. So...let's see...You can get free picts if you maybe won't chose life, but once you chose life, then forget it?

25. "Choose Life": another term we can do without |
|
It just seems real snotty to me: "Yes, I'm pro-choice. I choose life."
What's the alternative? Choosing death?
Somethin' tells me that since these ultrasounds are being paid for by the state of Michigan (on the theory that "once they see their precious baby developing in the womb they'll choose to keep it"), if you went to a clinic and asked for one they'd hook you up, no questions asked.

26. Bush has really raped the tax payers on this |
|
Bet their is not a Congressman alive that will ever look into it. I think it will have to be a church group. Some one will as their is always some one around that can not seem to help them self from doing such things.

30. I know. It's so frustrating. And I'm not one who |
|
really thinks there should be absolutely no faith based initiatives; however, I do think that they should be used only when the private and government ones are not there at all. Instead, many of these are shutting down. And then you have to wonder how much of our tax dollars are going to fringe groups who use a name and business as a coverup but then turn around and pull stunts like the Terri Schaivo stuff and this stuff.

36. People seem to for get that the Gov. took it over because of this |
|
Churches could not do it. Churches get their money from its members and during the depression no one had money so the gov. had to do it. Many states did it badly and so it went into a more of less fed. thing. If the so called GOP does not believe in the taking of income and giving it out to people, they are going about it in the wrong way. The gov. has some order in the way it does it but to have to believe in a set way of religion to eat is hardly what one would call the Am. way. It is like the old Puritans where you had to be one to be in office and God help you if you were even a Quaker. I can not believe that force feeding your God into a mind to have your children feed is right. And it is tax payers money.Bad business. Bush has used our money as if it is his own piggy bank and his Congress has let him do it.

8. They have never been right in the same parking lot though! |
|
Think of medical complexes when you go to the wrong doctor's office they tell you! And the nice ones even help you find the right place. This is deception with the intent to harm. They're harming the clinic which they of course don't care about, but they're harming a woman who they maybe could have garnernered her support had they been honest.

13. Some of those clinics are upfront about what they are about |
|
I have no problem with an anti-abortion group providing prenatal care to pregnant women. If they use the term "Abortion Alternatives", I think it's pretty clear what they are about. In the phone book, that is how they are listed, not under abortion providers. The phone books have been labelling them this way for a long time now, and have headings that are very clear about it.
Even if they are not clear about their purpose, they are not obligated by law to be upfront. There's no right in the constitution that protects people from criticism. It's the woman's responsibility to get the address of the clinic she's going to right.
It may not be seem very christian to try to trick women into their clinics, but it's not illegal, either. I think some of their tactics are wrong and should be illegal-going through the clinic's garbage or finding ways to discover the names of women who have appointments and making signs to hold up that say "Jane, don't kill your baby", for example, or picketing outside of doctors' homes with signs that say murderer are all examples in which the law is broken on some level, mostly trespassing. I won't even get into the Nuremburg Files, the tactics of which I consider to be terrorism.
But most of the people on the anti-abortion (not the politicians, who are using them) side of things are not bad people, they are people who care and think that women will suffer if they have abortions. They believe abortion is murder. They are not going to change their minds. I don't totally miss their point, either. Our society does have a callous attitude toward life and toward human suffering, and we are all part of it to some degree, whatever our politics or our religion.

Some are upfront about their intentions and that is great. But what I object to is when their dissent becomes stalking and wilful actions to harm those. What is unChristian is to make calls to their homes, families, and friends, and to 'mess' with their lives.
Regarding your point about the value of life, well, on that I agree as well. Except I think most of those people value the fetus and not the life. I'm sorry but it's many of these same people who are pro-war and pro-death penalty. They're also the ones who spend more money on their antiabortion cause than on helping those of us who live on earth.
I'm not 100% 'pro-choice' but I am 100% pro-eliminate unwanted pregnancies. And if they were to work for the same goal, then they wouldn't have to do the rest of the stalking they do.

35. CPCs Are For-Profit Baby-Brokers |
|
They make between $30K - $100K for every baby they "rescue" and sell adopt out to wealthy infertile couples. If you think lying to young desperate women, offering them no counseling about the devastating, life-long psychological sequelae to handing over an infant to strangers and making a healthy profit off it is not a "callous attitude toward life," I don't want to know what you think is.
The people who run CPCs are lying sacks of shit, plain and simple. They don't want to help anyone except their bank accounts.

First of all, how do you end up in the wrong office? Secondly, isn't this essentially practicing medicine without a license? Third, why is the article so vague? The clinic is just in Indiana somewhere. No town? No names of Planned Parenthood representatives?

I'd go in and make an appointment just to prove them fools. I'm not pregnant and have no plans to be pregnant again.
You think they'd keep harrassing people if they knew that 50% of the people walking in were dummies out to prove how silly they really are?

Edited on Wed Apr-26-06 10:39 AM by LaraMN
wound up in a pro-life "pregnancy crisis" place. I had gone there for a test- not expecting the place was run by pro-lifers. When my test came out positive, they were quick to shove a bunch of anti-abortion literature in my hands, and to preach to me about the "right" options to choose.
Did they point me to social services, so I could gain access to programs like medical assistance, or WIC that would actually HELP me? Oh no.
They have a singular purpose and they lose sight of the true nature of charity, support, and assistance entirely. These are the same people who preach family values out one side of their mouth, and vote for candidates who cut the social programs that actually help women in need.
It's sickening.

I'm not so sure it's bravery so much as an outlet for my disgust! In the hospital when I had my son, someone brought me a fake flower with a little piece of paper attached that had "thanks Mom, for life," printed on it. To this day I'm ticked about that, too. My decision (whether they agreed with it or not) was none of their business.

counter-protest. Unfortunately, it was called White Rose or something like that. I've always had a hard time with that name since then.
Anyway, the PP clinic had signs out to warn approaching prospective clients about their neighbors. The director of PP there mad ea point of trying to work with the anti-choice crowd though. She said "We've come to a meeting of the minds about wanting to do more about reducing the number of abortions by better access to contraceptives."
I don't know if they ever got anywhere after that as I had to move.
