Poll indicates most college students favor Iraq withdrawal

Poll indicates most college students favor Iraq withdrawal

April 12, 2006

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. --Sixty percent of American college students think the United States should begin withdrawing troops from Iraq, a 20 percentage-point increase from the fall, a new Harvard poll indicates.

However, the poll by Harvard University's Institute of Politics released Tuesday indicated fewer college students support a total withdrawal of troops, down from 22 percent in the fall to 12 percent.

The nationwide telephone survey of 1,200 college students was conducted between March 13 and March 27. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.8 percent.

Other results of the poll include:

-- Nearly three out of four college students (72 percent) believe the United States should let the United Nations and other countries take the lead in solving international conflicts.

-- President Bush's approval rating is 33 percent, down 8 percentage points from the fall survey

1. I can't believe he even has a 33 percent approval rating on campuses...

This administration is REALLY wrecking things for college students - slashing Pell grants, raising the interest rates on loans - clearly they feel an educated public is a dangerous one. Not to mention, they're leaving them an economic, social and military disaster of a country to inherit.

2. Why don't the supporters enlist?
The ones who don't support total withdrawal should enlist, they can finish college once their tour of duty is over, providing they don't come home in a box.

3. New enlistment perk - posthumous degree (sarcasm)
Think what a comfort it will be to your family when they visit your grave - your very own "honorary" college degree chiseled onto your tombstone.

5. What's wrong with some people?
"Do you think the U.S. made the right decision or the wrong decision in using military force against Iraq?"

4/7-16/06

Right Decision 47 %
Wrong Decision 46%
Unsure 7%
