the Repukes who screamed about congressional pay raises in the 80s have been happy to get their automatic pay raises since 1995 . . . all the while making sure the minimum wage has no change since the 90s . . . $5.15 . . .

2. Well, Avg. Wages are down I think covers that |
|
BTW, I was thinking of something re: the minimum wage debate.
Seems some of the rwingnuts come back with a response like, "Well, a lot of places already pay over minimum wage, like McD's or WalMart". Well, ok, Professor, then why the opposition to increasing the minimum wage???

3. A number of years ago, rush limbaugh was screaming that |
|
nobody was working for the minimum wage, so who would benefit?
Apparently, the illegal immigrants . . . er . . . Bush's "guest workers" . . .
Ironically, the main pushing point that Bush really tries to sell making the tax cuts permanent is that he lowered the tax rate for the people that Rush claimed didn't exist . . . those earning minimum wage . . .

4. Hmm, funny how that works |

And, Rush is exactly right: Almost no one makes the minimum wage.
Thats why its the minimum.
But people do make $6 an hour.
And, if the minimum wage were raised to, say, $6 an hour, then suddenly those people would be making minimum wage.
Hmm, maybe their wages would go up, accordingly?

5. He was technically right, like you said |
|
- meaning that very few people were making exactly $5.15/hour . . . (or whatever it was then) . . . quite a few of them were making less . . . we are on the same wavelength . . .

6. Latest one - Amendment XXVII (1992) |
|
"No law, varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened."
And you thought they worked for us, thought wrong. Congress sets the wages and salaries of, Congress. Wish I could do that. :eyes:
