Who could run for REPUB 08 ticket, to unite the true Republican Party?
With the Repub Party fractured by the takeover of the Bush neocons, I wonder just who might enter the 2008 ring as the candidate to reunite the disenfranchised "true" republicans.
Could denouncing the Bush neocons for what they really are, be helpful in this persons campaign?

Any thoughts?

6. aw, now, you've got me thinking about Gregory Peck and Laurence Olivier...
... spitting at each other with those over-the-top German accents. And one of the young Hitler clones attacking Peck: "You freaked-out maniac!"

The 'Pugs, indeed.

Part of "Boys from Brazil" was filmed in Lancaster County, PA, we southcentral PA DUers are proud to say!

5. Katherine Harris should be available.

She's going to lose the Senate race in Florida by a landslide and she ought to have plenty of Daddy's money left over to campaign with.

7. Who cares?
They're done for.

I don't care to debate what "true republicans" are, any more than I care to debate "the true meaning of conservatism".

I say both the republicans and conservatism are garbage, and need to be thrown out.

9. I cannot think of one currently elected republican
to fill the position you mention. Some may be not as putrid as the mahjority of them, but not one elected republican official cares enough about our country to be elected president. And what have any of them done to counter bush's wreckless politics. Its too late for any of them to change course now.

But Ill offer up two names, Hagel or Lott, but just by a whisker.

14. ahh yes, Lott was the first name on my list of possible contenders..
only because he has a big fat beef with Bushco, and it would serve him well at this point, in demonizing Bush policies, as well as distancing himself, as the true and more righteous Conservative, from any Bushniks.

Lott would love to herald himself as the man with the plan to restore the Conservative Republican Party to its true belief.
He could indeed gain some popularity with this approach based on the poison that Bush now brings to anyone aligning themselves to his side, but I doubt it would be enough to win him nomination or the Presidency.
I can see Lott taking up this mantra, however.

19. I can think of a couple, but they are old and retired (Ford and Milliken)
Both from Michigan, too. I don't think Ford is long for this world, but Milliken is only in his early 80s. He's in good health, you see him around Traverse City in the summer.

24. I voted for Ford in 76
I saw him on TV the other day when bush went to visit him. He looks bad, bless his heart. I wrote him a letter after the 76 election and I got a nice card back from him and I think its an original signature on it. He's the last republican I've voted for for any office.

perkins, that "christian" paragon of virtue bought duke's mailing list during an election in Louisiana several years ago. I think a leader of the klan is much more indicative of today's gop then some milquetoast senator.

He is a real fiscal conservative and he is organizing a campaign.

20. Hagel definately, for exactly the reasons you state..
should be interesting to see if someone like Hagel has the balls to face off in this manner, with the Bush neocons. Would be quite a test of powerloss for Bush& Co.

Would be interesting to witness this kind of shift..Such a movement could be the ultimate smackdown of BushCo power. End of Bush. Debunked. Eliminated from both parties of power and forever tainted from US politics. as well as those who served close to him..Rice, Cheney, Rove, etc.

Someone with Hagel's disdain for Bush, could actually send Bush & Co into their own little corner..and quite powerless.
I think that this is what will have to happen for the GOP to ever regain its status in the American governing system again.
They will have to disown Bush completely and openly take a stand against all Bush policies. They will have to call the Spade exactly what it was.. corruption, cronyism, and policies-for-personal-profit Presidency of GWBush.

the question was - which "true" GOPer can unite the party?

to me -- that means a fiscal conservative who supports limited gubmit and no intervention in foreign affairs.

"reasonable" candidate possibilities flinging themselves at the right wing (that would be mccain and guiliani, I don't see it happening. Obviously one must get that neocon wingnut endorsement to do anything in the GOP.

Mainly because the entire conservative philosophy is a complete lie.

So all you have is different degrees of idealogical purity and extremism...

30. From behind enemy lines: Condi
I am deep cover at a repuke firm and one of the partners is a big time repuke contributor. Here's what he's saying (he doesn't know I'm a lib):

The ITB repukes have already written off '08 as a loss to Hillary. Newt will run a losing campaign to get rid of his baggage and come back as clean in 2012.

Some ideologues are wetting their pants dreaming about Condi running in '08. We all know what will happen in a Hillary vs. Condi fight, so no worries there.

There you have it, direct from the right wing fringe, worth what you paid for it.

I believe newt will be a little on the old side come 2012. Hillary would slice and dice and filet kindasleazy in any debate. Her baggage is a helluva lot heavier than Hillary's. I hope sleazy runs.

38. Sorry dudes
I didn't mean to be so edgy. In addition to the terrible events of November 2004 I also landed my dream job. That has kept me busier than I like and I went from being carefree dude to like an adult overnight. I'm still getting used to life as a working man. The only bad part about my job is that I have to work with some right-wing, reactionary, fundamentalist, hand jobs. I still do what I can and I am looking forward to hearing Tony Blowjob referring to Speaker Pelosi! Peace out

I need to get busy helping out for the mid term elections. We're safe here. Neither senator (Durbin and O'Bama) are up and our rep, Melissa Bean, is safe. Once she gets reelected she's in for life. So I'll need to help in other areas.
