Byrd to Bush: "The Senate can send you home. You better believe that"
From the Senate Floor:
"It (the senate)retains all of its original powers, including providing advice and consent to Presidents on nominations and on treaties, serving as a court of impeachment--you better believe it, Mr. President. The Senate can send you home. You better believe that..."

2. I still don't get Byrd
After the last several years and his noble stands against the Bush administration, I was appalled when he rolled over for the *lifetime* appointments to the SC.

Great comment, but...

23. I don't get a lot of those things either...
And I've voted for the man MANY times since I began voting! The Alito thing REALLY pissed me off and hurt my feelings. Better Byrd than a Republican though! How many REpubs are saying anything about IMPEACHING Bush? I've heard NONE!

3. What was the context of which he said this?
IMO, it's tough talk, but needs to be followed up with tough action.

4. Some day I will read the collected
words of Bobby Byrd from the Congressional Record. It will take a year to read it all, but that's probably close to the number of hours this man has spoken there. There HAS to be a wealth of spectacular oratory from this master of words.

8. first the democrats have to get control of congress
so we can hold investigations and then the House must vote to impeach him and then the Senate can hold a trial.

11. He can't kick Bush out unless the House impeaches Bush
At this point, Byrd is doubly powerless. Even if the Dems take the Senate, they can't impeach *asshat unless they take the House, too.

17. Bring the case
But I don't think the states can impeach. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. Seriously, but I believe the House has to vote to impeach before it moves to the Senate.

18. I think the states can start the impeachment.
Edited on Wed Apr-26-06 01:13 PM by Hubert Flottz
I hear California is looking to do just that... Some other states too!

Edit...I've been reading about it here on DU, but don't know all the details.

20. states can demand that house reps to impeach...
vis a vis state resolution, and then requesting that house reps call for floor privilege which essentially suspends all other activity while the house rep reads the resolution on the floor.

if every state or majority of states did the same, it would force even a republican majority to begin impeachment proceedings whether they wanted to or not.

26. jesus. that's what Byrd said. "if the house impeaches...
the senate will try it (hold senate trial) and we can send you home.. (paraphrasing)

why is that we have constantly make corrections on what our own party leaders said in the past 24 hours?

why is it necessary all the damn time? especially when it comes to the matters of impeachment, elections fraud, resolution for censure, the alito filibuster and on and on..

i've seen this so many times here on the most critical congressional actions, to be met with a constant barage of misinformation - intentionally or just misinformed. it's getting to the point where i can't stand to even read stuff here due to inaccuracies, misrepresentations, distortions and just plain stupid notions of "strategy" talking points. :argh:

27. It's still better than CNN, FOX and MSNBC...Except for KO!
Nobody's perfect, but DU is closer than most!

About Mr. Byrd...I've been through the wringer about some of his odd behavior of late but I didn't know until just the other day just what he'd been going through with his wife. I'm very sorry for Mr Byrd's great loss. I'm very sorry and very sad, for feeling the way I've felt lately toward the man. I respect the man for doing the best he can for my little state.

The article mentioned that he'd lost his wife of 68 years last month. I knew his wife had died, but wow... 68 years.

A  for you, Senator.
