Coming to a school near you. Christian "Adopt a School."

Welcome to EverySchool.com, the place to Adopt A School for Christ and find the help you need to begin and grow your campus ministry. Accept The Challenge at your school!

Now, I'm a Christian. And this terrifies me. We have a few fundies in the family. We're not proud of them. We don't really like them. But, they are a great resource to remind us how incredibly crazy  some of these nut cases can be.

P.S. I should add that all you need to do is type in your zip code. Every school in your area is listed with information about Christian clubs on campus and who the organizer is (if there even is one.)

2. Isn't that contradictory to the separation of church and state?
I wonder why fundamental christians hate America so much.

4. You'd think
In my home county, most schools have one or more "Partners in Education." The Partners are generally local corporations that help provide financial support for special projects, such as additions to the library, field trips, or a new swingset on the playground. They will also sponsor activities such as a Shadow Day where students will come follow employees to see what they do, come in to the schools to speak, etc. I was stunned a few years ago to find that one of the Partners for my old middle school is a local church.

6. oh wow, that is scary
I am grateful that the schools in my area are very sparsely adopted and that there doesn't seem to be any clubs that have been organized.

The schools around here do a decent job of separating religion from education ... I hope it remains that way.

i have no problem with the religious choices of others ... it simply has no place in public schools

9. Read the site and the links. These people have an agenda.
They are out to make everyone Christian. This isn't some loose organization. We have some fundy nuts in the family. They eat this shit up. Happily, my area is relatively fundy-free.

11. They may be but not every school that's "adopted" is thumping Bibles.
Just saying...proceed with researched care. :)

13. Read the site and keep linking. It's organized.
My fundy fruitcake family members won't rest until everyone is just like them. They love this organization. Some of my research is simply having this in the family. :) They may come with a smile and "love for everyone," but the intention is to turn public school back to their particular God. Naturally, this won't succeed, but the mess that happens in the mean time is horrible. My old school district have a take over of the fundies. It took years to get them off the school board and to restore all the books and films they'd censored from the curriculum. Other districts across the country cited our district when justifying their censorship. They don't understand that this isn't a Christian nation and that we weren't founded by Christian for Christians only. They seem to think we're all about banning Bibles and turning their children gay. :eyes: I'm a teacher. I witnessed this mess first hand a few years back. I find it better to be wary and proven wrong, then too trusting and let them sneak past me and start causing problems.

Anyway, I'm really not trying to flame or argue with you. These people just really piss me off. They are always forming "new" Christian groups and ways to infiltrate when we stop them one way. I really hate how they have taken Christianity and twisted it to such a degree that I no longer feel welcomed at Mass.

Whew. Ok. I think I feel better now!

17. I also did a search on some fundy sites and saw connections.
And my fundy in-laws LOVE this adopting a school idea. They're Texas megachurch is in the midst of pushing it right now. :scared: They're just getting their first big push, from what I understand. They are getting smarter. They are outting people with less of a reputation out front and letting those who are really running the show hide behind the curtain. :eyes: Gotta love these people.

And you're right. Just because it says Christian doens't mean it's Bible thumping. Even as a Christian myself, I still can be very guilty of this! :)

8. GRRR
My son's high school is one of the few in the area that have been adopted. This pisses me off. The only thing I do not like about having this information is that I do not have complete information. They do not list WHO is doing the adopting, I want that information so I can write some very strongly worded letters to those individuals and groups which wish to mess with separation of church and state (my son goes to public school).

14. Something equally scary...
Down the street from where I work is a public middle school, and parked outside it (and I see this about 2 - 3 days every week) is a trailer marked with "RELEASE TIME CHRISTIAN EDUCATION" on it.

What's even scarier - up the street from the public school is a CHRISTIAN school. Why dont the parents who pay the money for the trailer cut out the middleman?
