Stupidity stuns me...
I posted to several e-mail groups the threat to the internet and net neutrality and, of all things, I got an almost instantaneous reply from another author I KNOW is a Repug. His comment? It's a hoax, and I should go immediately to Snopes to check it out rather than forwarding e-mails about such things.

It was a personal post from me, not a forwarded e-mail, and I immediately went to Snopes and verified, then posted the link.

Not fifteen minutes later, another dipshit posted that it was a hoax, and spam. On another list there are a few authors just chatting away as if their whole industry isn't endangered and I want to bust in and scream "aren't you paying attention? Don't just stand there, do something!"

These are ostensibly intelligent people. Writers. And yet they just don't seem to get it. What the hell is wrong with these people?

:grr:

:banghead:

:nuke:

Are these people deranged? My wife saw the threat as soon as I did and acted. These reponses are mind-boggling.

Someone stop me before I do something crazy. ;)

7. Thank you for the clarification.
Thank you for the clarification. However, speaking as a network engineer, I'm not worried about this.

2. People tend to recognize threats after it's far too late to stop them
It was true 70 years ago, and it's true today.

When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.

When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.

When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.

When they came for the Jews,
I did not speak out;
I was not a Jew.

When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.

3. If it makes you feel any better some of us can see that this is a big
threat. My DH was just reading an article about it on ZDNet (Senator plans Net taxes but no Net neutrality) and to say that he's not impressed with the idea at all would be an understatement.

Just because someone's a writer and can put a coherent and even imaginative sentence and story together doesn't mean they don't suffer from what my step-mom calls "tunnel vision". Sadly there are some intelligent people who are so focused on "their area" that they can't see the (diseased) tree for the forest.

Thankfully some of us intelligent folks can think on more then one level at a time and see beyond our own noses. B-)
