Not Many Look Admirable (Good Article About Duke Lacrosse Case)

Not Many Look Admirable

The sordid circus over what happened the night the Duke lacrosse team hired two women to dance something other than Swan Lake is making almost everybody look like clowns. But not funny ones.

First, there are the boys, most of them from prosperous suburban backgrounds in states north of here. Whatever they did or didn’t do that night, they had already built quite a reputation for unsavory arrogance.

Then there are the accusers, both of whom have had previous encounters with the law, and one of whom has consulted a public relations outfit to see “how to spin this to my advantage.”

Then there’s District Attorney Mike Nifong, running for re-election, who quickly announced he had proof that a crime had been committed. That prompted defense lawyers – the best money can buy, as if to confirm the players’ privileged backgrounds – to announce they possessed evidence that exonerates at least some of their clients.

I thought this was a great article, one that look at all sides. Due to DU rules, I was not able to post a lot of the good stuff, but it's a good read.
