Any Sirius subscribers out there? Bill Bennett on "PATRIOT" channel?
We subscribed to Sirius. It's a must have for long drives for work. I saw the press release that Bill "crap shoot" Bennett is now going to be on Sirius on their "PATRIOT" channel. Patriot channel.. hmmm... went to that listing and found several right wingnuts whose show descriptions included attacking "liberalism". They have a guy called "the gun nut", and one host is even posing wrapped in the American flag (not humorously like Colbert).

So.. here's the deal. If you have an account with Sirius, and you have the time, could you contact their customer service, as I did, and ask them... "why does your PATRIOT Channel only include right wingers who are attacking liberals and Democrats? Why are you perpetuating the myth that someone only right wingers LOVE our country and are patriots? Why are you using such a devisive name for that channel?".

You know.. we all get so immune to the daily corporate insults like that, that we don't even notice after a while. That one just pissed me off. It's like some given in America that left-leaners are not patriotic. I don't expect this thread to get a lot of traction, because it's not especially exciting, nor does it involve Ann Coulter or Karl Rove, but if jut a few people see it and contact Sirius, it would make me happy. thanks :grouphug:

1. Note to self: Cancel Sirius subscription
Well, I don't plan on doing that (yet), but you raise a very good point!

(Just watched Bennett on CNN's Situation Room. Man I can't stand that fuck)!

2. XM here
Now, if you ignore the news channels, there's 2 politics channels.

AmeriRight and Air America

IMO- this is quite fair. Each side gets its own channel. I've actually tried to tune into AmeriRight, but during the 5pm commute home, they have Dr Laura. While she's pretty messed up in her own right, it's not like there's a viable alternative to Rhandi on the drive home. (In the mornings i cannot stand talk radio. i need music to get me going.)

I only say this because i'm interested in hearing what the RW side has to say now and then (know thy enemy and such) but i seem to be missing any of the big talking heads.

ah well.

3. You raise a really good point there
The word "Patriot" does NOT NOW, NEVER HAS, and NEVER WILL mean solely "Republican." They might as well use a little truth in advertising and call that the Right-Wing Whackjob Christofascist channel.

It's one of my peeves with Sirius (now, granted, I'm an XM subscriber, but I get the Sirius music channels on Dish at home) - the cutesy idiot names for their channels. Ugh. I can't ever figure out what their channels PLAY by the name. Then again, XM's guilty of that too - good luck figuring out what Fred or Ethel or Fungus play.

4. and everytime I'm in the car and want to listen, they have pre-empted
TalkLeft for a college game or something. I am dumping Sirius and will try XM, I think..

I want a device that I can just set on the dash and plug in when I want XM, and the rest of the time just bring it into the house.. Is there such a simple device? I hate that ugly bracket they installed for Sirius, and half the time it doesnl;t work.. I had them work on it 5 times now, and they have replaced the bracket twice..

10. Sounds like you want either the Ski-Fi or the Roady
The Delphi Ski-Fi 2 is really cheap these days, and you can get home, car, and boombox kits for it. If you want something you can also carry around like a Walkman or an I-pod, then you want the Mi-Fi. The Roady is the smallest XM receiver, and would have a lower profile on your dash.

5. Well, they do have Sirius Left.
I'm a Sirius girl mainly so I can listen to NFL games, and I was disappointed when Air America jumped to XM, but I really do enjoy Sirius Left, and I never hear any wingnuts on there.

Just good ol' liberal folk like us. :-)

Is "PATRIOT" the same as "SIRIUS RIGHT" or do they have two conservative channels? If that's the case, I'll write that letter.

7. "patriot" is definitely their "RIGHT" channel.
Stuff like that is just so insidious.. little jabs from companies like Sirius, that probably don't realize what they're doing when they name it, or do they? It's like we're the left, and the republicans are the "patriots", cuz not one of the shows on the "patriot" channel is anything close to moderate or liberal. That's the issue. I really like Sirius, because of the music, and some of the talk shows, but I think it's worth letting them know that the word "patriot" is not owned by the right wingnuts. thanks!

9. Oh... I see, I'm sorry
Isn't that funny... I didn't even think about the "PATRIOT" connotation. I thought you were referring to the fact that Sirius had a rightie channel.

You're absolutely right about that. I've been with Sirius for two years now, and as long as I can remember, they called their rightie channel "Patriot." It never really bugged me before, probably because it made me snicker every time I heard righties hijacking the word.

:-)

6. Does that mean that "patriot" has become synonymous with "racist?"
Because that's what Bill Bennett is

8. Exactly... they should call that channel what it is..
"uptight, white, hypocritical, reactionary, mini-brains, channel" Guess that would be too long..
