Blackwell campaign exposes Ohio voters to ID theft... oops.
I bet a casual "oops, sorry about that" will be all that is needed to sooth OH voters upon learning that their social security number is now in the hands of any Internet spook who was fast enough to download it from Kenneth Blackwell's campaign for Governor.

And I'm sure they think this has no bearing on how he'll perform as governor, because I'm sure they are all confident that since he's been the OH SoS for so long, he must be up to muster. After all, voters know that they are great at picking top-notch quality talent to fill their most important public service positions, looking past any political or moralistic leanings to the best, most integrity-filled person to do the job.

Millions of Social Security numbers are now in the hands of people who aren't supposed to have them.

It's a big mistake leading straight back to one of the men running for Ohio Governor. The private records were mistakenly released by the Secretary of State's office.

Voter lists are crucial to political parties. They give campaign workers an efficient way to target potential supporters. The lists usually consist of the names of registered voters, their addresses, their party affiliation, and whether that person voted in the last election.

Social security numbers aren't supposed to be revealed.

But they have been because of a mistake by Secretary of State Ken Blackwell's campaign....

The mistake came with Republican gubernatorial primary just a week away.

6. voters lists include all registered voters, not just
Republicans.

http://www.cleveland.com/news/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/news/1145953996127950.xml&coll=2

Blackwell, the Republican Party's leading candidate for governor in the May 2 primary, learned of the snafu from a Democrat.

Consultant Alan Melamed said he and an associate asked for and received a computer disc of all registered voters in Ohio. The disc included a group of numbers, listed under the heading "school district," that looked a little familiar, he said.

They plugged in some friends and family and discovered the mystery figures were Social Security numbers.

I added the bolding.

Could this be actionable in any way by registered voters who may have had their Social Security number given out by this?

9. This is the second time he has made such a careless
"mistake" with social security numbers. He also posted the social security numbers for people that had filed forms with his office for a Business on his website. He was being pressured to take them down, kept making excuses and refused to for several days. Now he sends out registered voters ssn?

What the hell is his problem? People are advised to shred documents that have such personal information on them, many forms have gone to only printing the last 4 digits as a safety measure.

Does he just not care or does he have some ulterior motive?
