Calif. Woman Spanked at Work Sues for $1.2M

FRESNO, Calif. — Lawyers for a woman who was spanked in front of her co-workers as part of what her employer said was a camaraderie-building exercise asked a jury Wednesday for at least $1.2 million for the humiliation she claimed to have suffered.

Janet Orlando, 53, quit her job at the home security company Alarm One Inc. and sued, alleging discrimination, assault, battery and infliction of emotional distress.

Employees were paddled with rival companies' yard signs as part of a contest that pitted sales teams against each other, according to court documents. The winners poked fun at the losers, throwing pies at them, feeding them baby food, making them wear diapers and swatting their buttocks.

"No reasonable middle-aged woman would want to be put up there before a group of young men, turned around to show her buttocks, get spanked and called abusive names, and told it was to increase sales and motivate employees," her lawyer, Nicholas "Butch" Wagner, said in his closing argument.

1. How Republican...
Do these asshats do ANYTHING that isn't a college prank?
(I know this didn't say they were pubis, but deep down inside, I KNOW they are.)

3. How does humiliation increase sales?
All that does is create an intense desire to avoid humiliation, which will drive people to unethical behavior to increase sales.

Competition for the sake of competition leads to abusive behaviour. How hard is that to understand?

4. Ladies & Gentlemen of the jury, this is your chance to give defendants ...
... a good spanking so they won't do this again, and neither will any other big, mean, nasty defendant corporation with a huge excess policy to the CGL policy.

5. These kinds of "camraderie/team building exercises" are BS
Any manager resorting to this kind of nonsense (not just the spanking) is terminally clueless.

7. I had a boss once who had to go through one of these things.
She was middle management at best but wanted to be seen as a "team player," so she basically did anything they asked her to. One of the exercises was to break a 1-inch thick board with your hand (which is ridiculous in and of itself). She was a large woman, not athletic, and not strong in that way. She finally broke the board after hitting it so many times that she almost fractured her hand. She couldn't use it for over a week, and it looked like she had put it through a meatgrinder. But by god she did it . . . .

This crap is nothing but BS to embarass people and see who has the least amount of ego and can take the most humiliation.

8. Hey, great team building exercise -- NOT!
I guess this is what it's coming to -- not only working for lower and lower wages and benefits, but being willing to be humiliated to show what a "team player" you are. Holy crap! :grr: :grr: :grr:

9. Who came up with these "team-building" exercises?
You would think that someone at this company would know that this is just begging for a lawsuit.

12. Had a similar thing at a job I once had (long ago)
It was very "frattish" (and I know, 'cuz I was a frat-boy), and I let everyone know: "If anyone spanks or hits me, I'm going to punch you as hard as I can. Repeatedly."

I never got spanked (well, by those clowns anyway )
