3. What is the purpose of this kind of law? Who are they
aiming it at?

Every state in the union has it's own crisis and states like this are wasting legislating time making sure Dildo's don't get sold.....

gotta feeling the heterosexual women are going to have something to say about this in November....

12. These batty laws are, in large part, directed against lesbians. This is
specifically brought out in judicial decisions surrounding multiple, unsuccessful challenges to a similar law in Alabama. The most recent decision rests on an outrageous judicial finding that there is no constitutional right to have lesbian sex.

6. When dildos are outlawed, only state legislatures will have dildos.
note to skinner: if more states follow suit, it might be wise to include the word into the spell check vocabulary... it seems stumped by it at present

7. It's not illegal!! Yet...
Being a relatively recent arrival to South Carolina, and a fairly avid media junkie, I was surprised to see your post, 4... I haven't seen or heard anything about this!!

But then again, this IS South Carolina, and so without further ado...

Bill would make sale of sex toys illegal in South Carolina

By SEANNA ADCOX
The Associated Press
April 21, 2006

COLUMBIA — Lucy’s Love Shop employee Wanda Gillespie said she was flabbergasted that South Carolina’s Legislature is considering outlawing sex toys.

But banning the sale of sex toys is actually quite common in some Southern states.

The South Carolina bill, proposed by Republican Rep. Ralph Davenport, would make it a felony to sell devices used primarily for sexual stimulation and allow law enforcement to seize sex toys from raided businesses.

"That would be the most terrible thing in the world," said Ms. Gillespie, an employee the Anderson shop. "That is just flabbergasting to me. We are supposed to be in a free country, and we’re supposed to be adults who can decide what want to do and don’t want to do in the privacy of our own homes."

Why this bill doesn't surprise me

South Carolina is also considering a bill giving the death penalty to repeat child sex offenders.

House's turn to consider death penalty for sex offenders

MEG KINNARD
Associated Press

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Before the Legislature adjourns in June, state representatives say they plan to consider a bill already approved by senators that would allow some sex offenders to be put to death.

House approval is seemingly the last step before the bill, which already has the support of state Attorney General Henry McMaster and Gov. Mark Sanford, could become law. It's been referred to the House Judiciary Committee, where Chairman Jim Harrison, R-Columbia, thinks it will likely have success.

Okay, here's where I rant. I really hate people who sexually abuse children. They should be locked up forever.

But the death penalty for repeat offenders?? I can see it now...

Police: So why did you kill your victim after you raped her? She was so young!!

Suspect (a repeat offender): Hey, I was already facing the grave when I touched her! I figured if I killed her, and hid her body, I'd have a better chance of getting away with it! Hey, what did I have to lose??

This state is so stupid, it's frightening.

10. Maybe they just want to extend the DP to more crimes generally
Child rape is the worst crime most people can think of. So it's a good place to start. Then they'll go for regular rapists, drug pushers... then the good stuff comes along, they can kill the homosexuals and adulterers (just like their holy book instructs them to).

13. You're probably right, but their logic stinks
I doubt if the DP for repeat child offenders (as opposed to locking them up for life) will reduce the number of child sex crimes.

However, it will result in more dead children.

Which makes absolutely no sense.
