I found this to be interesting...
Every immigrant who comes here should be required within five years to learn English or leave the country.

– Theodore Roosevelt, Kansas City Star (April 27, 1918)

This may ot set well with some but it's true...

2. Actually....if you went to any other country and wanted to become
a citizen you would have to learn the language...no one is saying that immigrants can't retain their native language....many naturalized citizens have....but I think it is important for everyone in the USA to be able to speak, read and understand the English language.

3. Course he said this too...
In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American.

– Theodore Roosevelt, letter to the American Defense Society (1919)

6. Yeah I know...
I can't understand why they always get pissed-off at people who don't know English, when their President can't even speak it!

5. It's basic economics. If you're going to starve in a foreign country
because no one understands you or will give you a job - you learn the language. Otherwise you don't.

This has unintended consequeces. You can live in Miami and live in a foreign country at the same time. I lived in Miami for 5 years. Loved it. Didn't speak Spanish but did try to pick up as much as I could. DId make me realize how hard it would be to move to S. America unless I knew a lot more Spanish.

8. Try collecting past due medical bills...
when you don't have anyone who can explain to them what you want...
